Ultra Peers and Leafs

so if im a leaf i get fewer search results right? do ultra peers get more results for their searches? how can i become an ultra peer?

LW will connect you as an ultrapeer if the network needs ultrapeers, if you're not firewalled & if you have a reasonably fast connection.

There's more info about it here

and in this thread, though some if it's really old;)

Ok I am very confused. My LM is telling me someone has blocked me from allowing me to share files. Ultra peer and leaf mode? How do I get this idiot off me? I have tons to share.
Thanks

So we have to go unprotected in order to become an Ultrapeer, eh? Sorry, but although I may meet any other qualifications, it turns out that "two out of three is bad"! I waited almost ten minutes today for a "Turbo-Charged Connection" with my LimeWire/4.12.11 (Pro) DSL system as a leaf. Now I disconnect from LimeWire Internet after a session as a leaf ... never did back when I was connected as an Ultrapeer. (Only power outages caused a disconnect then, and when I came back on there were plenty of Ultrapeers, so I came back as a leaf. Then malware caused me to erect the firewall. :mad2: )

Edit: I was looking for a means to 'bookmark' this thread, but didn't find one. Apparently, when someone posts in a thread in this Forum, the bookmark is set automatically ... nicht var? (That's a nice feature!)

When I say "not firewalled" I mean not seeing the firewall icon within LW. The LW firewall icon indicates a firewall problem...a firewall somewhere (either software or within a device) preventing LW from working at it's best.

I'm not suggesting that anybody run without a firewall. My software firewall is always on & is configured to allow LW, as is the NAT firewall within my router. Hence I see no firewall icon & am able to connect as an ultrapeer.

Then I will check my ZoneAlarm documentation for how to allow LimeWire access to the Internet. Thanks for the clarification! (No need to reply ... I presume you would say "You're welcome" ;) .)
