Saving & Transferring

The audio device on my desktop has gone bad. I have to reinstall my operating system and thereby lose everything on my computer. How do I salvage the contents of my limewire library which is quite large?
Help, please????

Can you transfer your files to disc? If you have, for example, mp3 files, you can use a burning program (I use Nero 7) to create a data cd. (You can probably just drag and drop files just as easily).

When you transfer the files to your new computer, just make sure that folder is being shared, and it should be included in your LW library.

Hope this helps

I'm not too sophisticated about these matters. I think I need more details.
How many songs can I get on one cd because my library must contain several hundered?
Also what is the difference between a data cd and a music cd?
Finally, what do you mean by sharing the folder?
Thanks for your attempt at helping but I'm a little dense.

You can also use a flash drive or an external hard drive.

Hi Zouina

File size varies depending on the file format and song length. mp3 files are usually 3000 to 6000 kB (kilobytes).

A typical CD-R can hold 700 MB (megabytes), which is the same as 700,000 kB.
So, you can easily fit over 100 mp3s on one CD-R.

A data CD can contain any file type...mp3s, video files, pictures, etc. Some CD players will play mp3 files. Audio CDs contain a very specific file type that can be played on all CD players. Audio CDs can usually only hold 10-20 songs, depending on how long they are.

Once you copy your CD to your new computer, add that folder to your shared folders (How to share folders) and then you will once again be able to see all of your songs in Limewire's library.

Hope this helps
