official Limewire Communications warning msg.

I just upgraded to 4.12.8 and . . .

I hate to whine — okay, I know… if I really hated it, I wouldn't post this, right? — but what gives with the ugly orange¹ warning banner at the top of search results tabbed windows? I mean, it's not that I don't appreciate getting the warning, but why keep this banner up on what seems like a permanent basis? Or might I get lucky and discover that after awhile, this banner msg. times out and I won't have to look at it any more?

It just seems like an eyesoar to me, and it unnecessarily takes up screen realestate.

I suspect this is a stupid question, but . . . is there any way to get rid of this banner, short of regressing to 4.12.6?

Thanks.

Could you post a screenshot of the message?

Sounds fishy, especially as the current version is 4.12.6:yikes:
There's a 4.13.0 Beta version but AKAIK no 4.12.8...did you get your LW from the official site www.limewire.com ?

wondering why January 26th, 2007 01:48 PM

Hmmm I had another person say something about 4.12.8 and I thought it was a typo when Mick pointed it out...

Settle down:D. I have refreshed my page. I see 4.12.6.

Well I just downloaded it and it actually says it's 4.12.10...:shoot:
I'm also having trouble getting it to open at the moment, but I am burning a disk, so I will let you know once that is all done and I will check it out...
To be continued lol...

When I open the app back up and click Help » About Limewire, I get 4.12.8.

You know, come to think of it, we might be uncovering a problem that's existed for awhile now. I can't remember the specifics, but I'm quite sure that at one point I was at a certain version level. And kept checkin' the webpage to see if there was a new version out. And there wasn't. And then, all of a sudden, I checked it again (without a lot of intervening time) and there was a new version. But the thing was, it was several versions later. I might be able to dig out the details, but I'm sure this is what I encountered.

Food for thought . . . and inquiry?

So, does anyone know why different version levels were showing up for different people at different times? Now, I also see 4.12.10 when I go to the very same webpage I went to earlier.

birdy, I don't think it was your browser. I see 4.12.10 now too... but I didn't see it earlier using the same browser (MSIE).

So did any one figure out how to get rid of that annoying orange box when doing a search on Limewire? (P.S. My first post on here - be gentle)

I'm using basic 4.12.10

wondering why January 28th, 2007 11:26 PM

No I couldn't get rid if it, but we will let you know if anyone has success with it...:rolleyes_2:

thricipio January 30th, 2007 04:18 AM

Do the developers read these forums?

I wonder… do the developers read this forum? If so, do you think they might be inspired to remove¹ this ugly message? If they don't read it, is there another, perhaps better way to get feedback to them — that users would prefer to not have to keep seeing this msg. banner?

1. by remove, I mean figure out a way to have it appear for a set period of time or number of viewings, and then go away.

gbp007 February 3rd, 2007 08:28 PM

Please has anybody found a way to remove the orange banner ? It is really annoying and it would be of a lot of help if i can find a way to remove it ??

Xcom46 February 4th, 2007 08:02 AM

yea

Maby some one put a virus on the net work and made it pop up think of that .
it do's seem kinda fishy i mean i think mine was fine last month.Never had that pop up be for.Do's any one have had that problem with the pro or is it just with the basic.

wondering why February 5th, 2007 04:01 PM

It's not a virus matey it's part of the new version of limewire....:bangh:

TezL February 9th, 2007 01:59 AM

I updated to the latest Limewire yesterday - version 4.12.11 from the official site - now I have the unwanted orange warning bar. It tells me that only those hits with the padlock symbol are officially Limewire results but out of all hits so far the actual number that have had a padlock symbol is zero.

wondering why February 9th, 2007 02:14 AM

It actually only says that if you don't see a padlock on a file that says official LW update, don't go near it....
You see there is a file at the top of most searches that says download and install the LW update now and it's a virus...So this is Limewires way of warning people of this bogus file....

TezL February 9th, 2007 02:50 AM

Oh I see, yes - understand what you mean - it only applies to files which are Limewire Updates. I suppose its because in Options I have only 'major release' checked that I never (or nearly never) see a result that says Limewire Update and I've been lucky enough never to had a bogus Limewire Update show up in results, perhaps because only search for music. Thanks for explaining.

Xcom46 February 11th, 2007 04:13 AM

I have pro 4.12.6 it do's not have the banner i tryed the 4.12.10 it has the banner.I think it's Just the basic not pro.

hello.. im new to this and i would like to know if you guys could help me firgure something out.

Everything i log in on classic limeiwre there is a banner that says in oragne letters: "Only search results with a lock are official LimeWire Communications."

I dont understand that and when i click on it, it doesnt take me anywhere. But im fairly sure thats the reason why i cant upload nor download my music.

So if you guys could explain that to me and mayb how to remove it .. that would be real appericated.=]

lizzyishigh December 27th, 2007 12:36 PM

lol forget it .. i just firgure it out.. [ not how to remove the orange banner but how to get my music]

but if the officials dnt read this .. it hink teh best thing would be to ingorn it .. if it doesnt post any seriuos threat to your computer nor files

camdd4 January 13th, 2008 06:23 PM

I too am concerned with the orange warning banner above the search results. I don't mind it being there but have no idea what it is for. If it is saying I should check for a little picture of a padlock before downloading, then I have no idea where to look for it - I have yet to see it attached to any of my searches. So, any ideas what it is telling us?
