help me limewire has encountered a problem and must close at this time

i know this is simular ro my last problem, but actually its different. i cant preview a song or movie/video without error message popping up saying limewire has enciountered a problem and must close at this time. i can preview them under windows media player but that is just aggrevating to have to go back and forth between the two. everytime i launch song, ect. this happens. i have went back to the version of wmp that i previously had like you suggested and uninstalled and reinstalled limewire. still same problem occurs anymore suggestions? anyone else having this problem? thanks for your help in advance. this is driving me crazy!!!!

Can you remember the last thing you downloaded before this started happening ??
I'd say there is a corruption in one of your files and it causes limewire to close...
you can check this by trying to access your shared folder outside of limewire...
By default go to My Comp > HDD > Documents and settings > User (your folder name) > Shared...
If it gives you the same message LW does it is definitely a corruption and you will need to work out which one it is and delete it...
If it doesn't post back and we will find another solution...:rolleyes_2:

goodws1.
Try this player, Media Player Clasic, Has codecs built in, & no backdoor for
spammers to exploiet, WMP is a problem for P2P users unless you can set your
firewall to never alow WMP to connect to the internet
http://www.mpcstar.com/?lang=en_us
May also be fake files you are trying to D/L

USE BITZI LOOKUP
when you see a file you want
Right click/advanced/look up file with BITZI, if its not reported on leave it, till it is, Now music, is not so easy,
The Newer they are, the more careful you must be
The record companys are putting swarms of fakes on
the network, Take note of size, Songs less than 2000kb with 128kb bitrate must be less than two mins.THINK!!, how long is the song Im looking for ?
so what size SHOULD it be,
If it dos'nt have a bitrate! LEAVE it,
Scan every File befor OPENING them
Dont D/L exe, rar, zip,or wma files. I am expert at using LimeWire & I dont touch them they are 99.9% viruses. We only use these for testing antivirus
programs.
Peace.

help me i dont know how to do what you told me to do?

sory i went to my comp hard disk drives doc and setts. user name9my folder0 shared and then under music what do you mean if it gives me the same message as limewire it is a possible corruption? this just takes me to the list of all my songs do you mean to play each song and see if the message pops up? this will take forever. is there an easier way to scan for corrupt files? maybe i just dont understand what you want me to do and am doing it wrong. please explain. there has to be a way to determine what file is corrupt you would think. if not how do i delete all songs video and movies and make sure it is deleted everywhere on my computer. and if i do this and still have same problem can i restore them back with norton restore? i hate to lose all my songs if thats not the problem. HELP PLEASE REPLY BACK AGAIN ROLLEYES-2:

No don't delete all of your files...I take it you successfully entered your shared folder without the error message popping up...

I would now think that there is a corruption within LW itself...
Try the fixes in this thread one by one...Make sure you use the offline installer for Java and LW....Uninstall Java first and reinstall....Then uninstall LW...If it still keeps popping up with the error report try deleting your preference folder...

All instructions and links are in this thread....
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should!

goodws1 March 14th, 2007 03:00 PM

i tried all suggestions?!

i tried everything on fixes when limewire isnt operating as it should as suggested by lord od the rings also others suggested that i had downloaded a corrupted file and if i find that and delete it that would fix the problem . i deleted everything on my computer that has anything to do with songs videos or movies deleted all songs from wmp and everythong from limewire, and still have the same problem. also was suggested that if i could get into my shared files on comp and got same error that i had a corrupted file somwhere bit when i go there and play a song i dont get the error message that i have been getting . i dont know what else to do thanks for your help so far everyone but dont forget me i still need your help. i just cant figure this one out. thanks.

When you uninstalled limewire did you use the limewire uninstaller or did you do it through the add/remove programs ??

You could also try this fix....
Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

goodws1 March 14th, 2007 04:13 PM

i tried both ways . i know your not supposed to go to add remove but i thought it was worth a shot ive tried every thing else but i also tried the removal under programs

Ok ...I have put my head together with another forum member and we have come up with this...

Try unistalling limewire and installing the Beta version http://www7.limewire.com/beta/LimeWireWin.exe it's an excellent version I use it myself...

Now download the VLC media player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ it's an excellent media player....
Make the VLC player your default player...
Go to your shared folder (outside of Limewire) you will find this folder by clicking on one of your files in your LW library and clicking explore...

Right click on one of your movie files
Select open with
Select choose program
select VLC
and tick the box that says always use this program to open this file type
Select OK

You also might want to do it with your MP3 files as well ( I use itunes)...

Now go and try to open a movie file with the VLC player and an MP3 file with itunes and see if you still get the error message...

Can you also tell me what security you are running...
ie Antivirus and spyware programs...
Also if you have a look under your modem you will see the make and model number for it, can I have this info as well please...

Did you change or add any software to your computer just before you noticed this error occuring...

goodws1 March 19th, 2007 11:17 PM

norton systemworks the modem is a westell model 6100

wondering why March 19th, 2007 11:23 PM

Ok maybe Norton is stopping something, well I think it is when you are trying to install the VLC player....
Can you just try disabling it and then try to download the VLC player and install it...
I really think this whole problem lies within the current player you are using...

Oh and you have a Nat firewall in your modem, but we will get to that bit soon...:D
