For a few months now........I can't seem to get ANY music off this site. Is everybody scared? Or do I need to lower myself to Hip-Hop and Rap?

Lower yourself????

I happen to like hip-hop and rap (well, some of it anyway) so I suggest you use your brain before you start posting your "stupidity" on an open world-wide forum.

lol

maybe he didn't know how to exactly phrase his question...

but, I do have really hard time listening to music that talks about
"slapping bitches", "shooting nigg*rs" and other type of BS.

It is quickly becoming one of the biggest problems here in the states,
Before you jump out at Bigjerr think at least for a minute,
is that how you want UK to be like? (assuming you're from UK)
A far as I know... I'd want to be anywhere but u.s. and Iraq, ... and those tolitarian countries...
afaik, uk and aust. is one of those last good places left. not much problems there.

I mean, nothing against you, maybe the hip-hop and rap in uk is really different and violence levels are low there.
**** here is bad take it from me who was raised in the ghetto side of s. ca

Hip Hop, Violence and other ills of Society

Vicarious

First of all, I am from the UK, born, raised, live and work in London. And as a married man with two grown up sons I do get to hear some hip hop music which are questionable.

Now, in the US you associate violence with hip hop, you may have good reasons for this, as I am not a US citizen I cannot know or experience what you have gone through but you must understand that violence does not exist because the music exist. More than likely it is the other way around, i.e. a situation exist so people sing about it as a form of expression.

And you know as an American that throughout your history African Americans of always expressed their current problems through song, be it Spiritualism (Church singing), Blues, Soul or now, the 21st format of hip hop. That is why I cannot, and will not, dismiss hip hop as rubbish.

In time to come, the bad hip hop songs, like any bad songs, will be forgotten and the good ones will be seen as a form of expression, dealing with and expressing current problems that the rest of the American media want to brush under the carpet.

PS. We have our fair share of violence etc. in the UK, just accept that there are very few places left in the world where a person and his family can live in peace and harmony.

i work for the ministry of justice and it is well known in my line of work that this 'gang' music does encourage young individuals (young black men especially) to turn towards crime. they hear these 'artists' boasting about shootings and robberies in their song lyrics, and then see the 'artists' driving round it top quality mercedes and ferraris in their videos.

only 3 words to say mate. South London, Stabbings ???

Make no mistake, I am well aware of the killings that are happening with sickening regularity in South London, hence my comment:

Now, I do not doubt that there are some idiots out there that let some aspects of hip hop influence their behaviour but that is not true of everyone that commits a criminal act.

And don’t forget the new forms of art and various opportunities that hip hop has given to some youngsters.

(At this moment I am watching J-Lo's Dancelife on TMF)

All I am saying is that music, no matter where it comes from, is created after a situation exists not before, just listen to some Tupac.
