What has gone wrong?

What has gone wrong with Limewire?
I have over the last two years downloaded over four thousand
song and video titles into two computers, and have spent countless
hours researching same to correct song title and artist mistakes in
my Limewire library in order that mistakes are not passed on into
perpetuity. A major investment in time and effort.
Lately when I attempt a search all I get is smut and porn regardless
of keyword filtering. Most disturbing is that recently in attempts to
search, I get a warning that my Limewire may NOT in fact be genuine
and that there are over one thousand titles MISSING from my library.
I'm pissed about this because of the research time and effort involved
and because I apparantly can no longer trust Limewire! (!!)
What Gives? (!)

How are you recieving that warning? Anything that shows up in your search results should be looked at with a suspicious eye. LW doesn't send out warnings via the search results. Those are spam and should be ignored. Also LW can't control the contents of the network. Files on the network are what's being shared by other users.

Don't know what could have happened to your missing files. Try searching your hdd for them and do a virus scan.

See this thread for info on fake/spam files: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=63993.

Thanx for the reply, ... what I'm getting as soon as I click 'search'
is a yellow warning bar at the top of the results window that reads,
"Warning, Only search results with, (shows a Lock) are official Limewire
communications. More Info."
So I clicked on the more Info and now every time I attempt a search
I get the same warning.
I think I've finally been had.

That banner was added because there's a bogus LW update showing up in search results. It's a 75.7 KB .exe & shows up as "Urgent LW update - download & install now". If people download & install that thing they could end up infected. So, to make sure everyone knew that it was crap, the warning banner was added.
It's just to make sure everyone knows what's a real LW update & what's not.

The padlock symbol doesn't apply to music or video etc;)

Thanx so much for the quick response, ...Really !! I have been
very concerned about the possibility of infection, and have always
been fastidious re: suspicious files. The files that are missing are
not a problem account everything is downloaded into a portable
hard drive independant of either of my computers.
I've completed an AVG and Lavasoft scan and everything seems
fine
Again, ...thanx for the response, ...keep the faith!!
