strange folder, worm

delf.ATB has attached itself to my startup ..DLL. just rand AVG and it picked it up. Not sure how do get rid of it. I have Nortons... Just ran a full system scan and it didnt pick it up. My husband also got something that kept making popups on his computer then it made all the files he had downloaded in zip form. Its a shame that people have nothing better to do than to attach viruses for ***** and giggles.

Well, you are wrong, most viruses now are written by and/or commissioned by professional criminals and special interest groups, such as the RIAA.

For example, the virus that turned your husband's files into zip files is thought to have been commissioned by the RIAA to kill off the swapping of music files.

So, don't run away with the idea that viruses and worms are just written by kids for fun when in fact they are now produced with some sort of criminal financial gain firmly in mind.

What was happening with your startup ??? Could you give a few more details to what exactly was happening and what do you think was downloaded that caused this....

My computer restarted itself then ate a windows file. Had to install windows again. I am not sure what file I downloaded to get this but I do know when I looked on limewire (shared files) it showed a folder that contained all kinds of stuff. I deleted all of it (it had stuff that I know I did not download). Then it took all my music files and put them in zip form just like my husbands on my husbands computer. So I am thinking it could have been a song I downloaded that wasn't really a song. I didn't look at the warnings here on the message board before I started downloading.

And Bob, thanks for the insight. Never really thought of it that way.

Have a great day all.

strange folder

Does anyone out there know why I have a folder on my limewire downloads that keeps getting filled with stuff that I did not download and how can I get rid of it? I tried to reinstall limewire but it keeps coming back. I can't seem to find it on my computer where it says it is located. It is under shared then has a _ (folder icon). Sorry I am new to limewire. Thanks for any advice.

Following on from your last problem, which a moderate should merge with this one, it is obvious that you have some sort of virus on your PC. If your anti-virus app cannot get rid of it then you probably have no choice but to reformat your HD two or three times, to make sure the virus is gone, and finally re-install your O/S and all your apps.

PS. Do an online virus check after reinstalling your apps.

Yes I will probably have to do that. I have four virus protections running. Seems like one would pick it up, but that file has been in there ever since i downloaded limewire. So not really sure. I did download limewire from the official website. And thanks again UKBob
