Help Please (is it legal to download files without a license?)
 

I'm new to Limewire. This is surely a stupid question but everytime I try to download a music file, a popup appears saying Limewire is unable to find a license. It asks if I want to download anyway. Is it illegal to download that file?

If it is copyrighted it may be illegal to download...It can depend where you are from and what the laws of your country are...
To check your laws use google...;)

generally the rule is:

- illegal in the u.s. if it's copyrighted UNLESS you own a copy of the cd.

- in other countries, many times uploading of copyrighted files is illegal, but downloading is legal...

it really varies, and lots of the times the laws are somewhat vague. google.com like the last poster said and figure out whats legal and whats not in your country :)
