A quick question about port settings

Hate to go on a rant here...but the firewall has not disappeared from the globe even though I have the Upnp setting checked in firewall settings. Also, I have noticed the port number changes every time I run LW. Last time I checked it was 51514; have also had 29054, some in the 30000 and 40000 range. Of course, it may be that there is really no one port that is the best for uploads and downloads; or maybe there is. Having Bellsouth Fast Access DSL Lite service, with the Westell WireSpeed modem, may mean I have to do some serious tweaking for maximum performance. Have an ethernet cable from the jack on my computer tower to the jack on the modem. Any suggestions or tips would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you,
Andy Perkins

It's not unusual for the port number to change for UPnP.

One thing that does stand out though is Bellsouth ... that rings an ominous bell to me. Perhaps I'm wrong. But do a forum search for bellsouth and see what you come up with. I am off the forums for a bit which is why I am not searching for you.

Ok I just did a very quick search ... found another user also with bellsouth & also using westell device, & they solved their problem by port forwarding. PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Lord of the Rings, used portforward.com and set ports at 30000; then followed steps to configure through Bellsouth. It worked! I now have a full globe with no firewall in front of it. Please pass this information on to other Bellsouth users so they can configure their routers accordingly.

Thanks for your help,
Andy Perkins
