Default Tech Help RE: Burning CDs via Windows Media Player

I have cut many CDs in the past without any problems. Now, when I put the artist's name in a search, and then send the search results to my Windows Media Player "Burn List" I have encountered a problem with a couple of songs.

I can play the songs on the LimeWire player. When the 2 songs get to the Windows Media Player the player won't play them and I get this message: "Windows Media Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." The message also shows the usual --- Artist's name, song title, length, type of file, Bit Rate, size and rating. Both files are mp3 and one Bit Rate when I downloaded them was 128 and the other was 160. However, on the message I get, on both it now says the Bit Rate is 0. Because they won't play on the Windows Media Player I also can't burn them to a CD.

I have tried for the past 3 weeks, several times a day, to try to find another source on LimeWire to download these songs, and so far I have struck out.

Anyone know how to solve this???

You need some codecs. For XP try: Download XP Codec Pack 2.0.7.1 - XP Codec Pack is one of the most complete codec pack

For Vista try: Vista Codec Package v4.4.5 (freeware)

Also try VLC media player, it has the codecs built in and is very reliable. I keep it on hand just for files that won't play right in WMP. It's a good back up for other players.

I downloaded the VLC Media Player and am able to play the 2 songs on it that I couldn't on the Windows Media Player. My problem now is that I can't find anywhere on the player where I can burn a CD. Is this possible on the VLC Player?

You could try Nero...it doesn't play music, but it will burn CD's...

Nero 7 [Nero 7 Trial]

I'm not sure why WMP won't play .mp3 files!

Good Luck

Dan
