Unhappy Valid IPs?

I haven't fired up Limewire in a while. Is there a default IP, maybe hosted by limewire, or some caching server, so I can get back on the network. After trying to connect to all the IPs it had in memory (from more than a year ago, I am sure) no one's responding.

Emrecio

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do but it seems you have completely misunderstood how your Limewire software works.

That said, I would suggest that you forget the nonsense you think you know about IP addresses and download a new copy of Limewire Basic and, of course, a new copy of Java V1.5 (aka Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12).

Get you new copy of LW from here: Lime Wire » Official Website & Free Download «

and get your new copy of Java from here: Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Good luck.

Angry Done that

I've done that. I've even installed it my linux boxes (FC5, FC6 x86_64). It's supposed to be a Peer-to-peer network... i have no peers to connect to is what I am trying to say. Don't assume I don't know what I am talking about, and be curt about it.

Everything that was in my old preferences file, seems to be dead links. And yes, I am not being blocked by any router NAT as my machine is in the DMZ. Locally on the boxes iptables is allowing inbound 6346. On the OS/X box, its being NAT'd but not firewalled on the way out.

Default tcpdump

Notably, tcpdump on the interface shows only one connection attempt:
22:33:23.229302 IP 10.174.4.235.6346 > 234.21.81.1.6347: UDP, length 31

... to a multicast addr ...

Cool CVS version of limewire

So the CVS version for the source, doesn't have a sufficient list of IPs. Getting official release of "basic" running downloads some IPs. Feed it through tcpdump, and export the remote IPs on Gnutella ports. Remove ~/.limewire dir, and fire up the compiled version (from CVS). Then just start feeding it some of the exported IPs. The compiled version should then start joining the network. This helps because then I can use my old "pro" version on the Mac instead of using a crippled "basic" modern version - I just feed it a couple of the IPs i've discovered from the tcpdump.
So I guess my question is, what's the difference between the source code version, and "pro"? Or even pro 4.8 and current pro?

If you really want to the following:

Then that question is best put to the programmers of LW.

However, if you want help in getting your LW Basic or Pro to work then you will have to supply the following info that will help us to figure out your problem.

1. What OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ?
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem what brand name & model numbers ?
7. Router brand name & model numbers ?
8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ?
9. What version, LimeWire & Java, are you using. Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
10. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
11. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
12. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
13. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
14. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
15. Have you given full permissions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
16. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?
17. In Start & remove Programs, Is this update Installed, "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)" ?
If Windows Updates are not seen, Tick the box at top of page, (show updates)
18. Are you using Manual Port forward in LimeWire OR UPnP ?

Sorry that my first reply seemed curt but your first post came across as a "confused newby", which obviously you are not.

Anyway, pending your reply, you said:

I presume from this that you don't have any security software running on your machine and that it is probably a Unix based system and not Wintel one.

I have one question, have you tried port forwarding LW and your router? I ask this because most times a configuration adjustment is needed to both LW and router to get them to work together, i.e. send and receive internet communications.

Awaiting your reply.

PS. I cut and pasted the “1 - 18 questions” from elsewhere and realise that some of them may not apply to you.
