Whats my IP # Whats my IP # do already have one or do i make it up> im trying to direct connect:Smilywais: |
What you see when you click on the direct connect is your IP number that is the number you give to the person you are trying to direct connect to... How to use Bitzi Web Lookup .. & How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect/Browse/Chat |

2 Attachment(s) Select Direct connect Tab... Attachment 3691 Then you should see this... Attachment 3692 Just under the text it will give you your IP number... |
i must be having problems with my firewall settings. ive got my nortan disabled but limewire is still registering that i have a firewall up. and i tried restarting limewire |
Ahhh, that's why you can't see it... Post these details and we'll see if we can get rid of the wall... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-you-post.html |
windows XP i think alls i have is nortan firewall 512mb ram not sure on hard disc connection is DSL westell 6100 modem from my apartment Limewire 4.10.0 pro and java 1.5.0_10 Verizon test worked ive never direct connected still shows firewall Nortan anti virus is alls i know of whats a security suite im in the USA |
It's more than likely the Nat Firewall in your modem/router... Here are your instructions to Port Forward, so you can open a port for limewire to pass through... Port Forwarding for the Westell 6100 |
before i do this i have a few questions. 1 this is a modem not a router or are they the same things? 2 i disabled my firewall why is it still showing that its up? 3 how will this change my setup |
Some modems are modem/routers, two in one... You are still seeing the wall because of the firewall that is built into your modem/router... It wont change your set up at all, it just let's limewire through the firewall, the same way as if you allow limewire through an XP firewall or a Nortons firewall...;) |
can i turn it on and off. should i just disable it and use nortan |
No I wouldn't, it can get a bit difficult trying to turn it off...Just follow the instructions, it's not hard once you get going...;) |
havn probs. im as far as googling my router # is that the # i made up |
You can't make one up...Can you log into your router using the default number given in the instructions... |
it says 401 Authorization required:bangh: |
Not good...The number that needs to be entered is your ISP's IP number, give them a call and ask them what it is...;) |
ok i didnt type the right info in but i got an alternate ip address but i might not need it the default address is 192.168.1.1 where do i enter that # theres 2 ports in my limewire and theres a place to enter it in the instructions. do i leave out the dots |
k imade it as far as putting in the global port range whats that? and whats the base port range? |

So you need to enter (the number you have chosen) in the TCP and the UDP boxes, remembering it's the same number for all boxes... Also once you have done that make sure you enter (that same number) in the Listening Port box in limewire as well as selecting the manual port forward option...;) |

port forwarding can get as far as filling out the global port range which is 2 boxes of numbers. and the base port number. what numbers do i use? also why cant i just enable the UPNP, the universal plug n play option? im running limewire 4.10.0 pro and my modem is a westell 6100 |
|
ive got that site i dont know what numbers to punch in it doesnt say, for the global port numbers and the base port Thread merged with vw-'s original thread to prevent confusion. |
From looking at those portforward instructions, I'd say you enter the port you've chosen for LW into both the port range boxes (because you're only forwarding a single port) for TCP & then again for UDP...the instructions only tell you to add ports into those boxes so I guess you leave the base port box blank. |
