Can't view movies

Hello gang this is my first post. I have done something to my computer I have movies that I downloaded that I could view and now I can't see them. I am using Windows Media Player 11. When I try to play the movie it says getting codec but it just shows just circles. Does anyone know what I should do. thanks Leland

We recommend this player VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) & has in-built codecs.

You are missing codecs.
