Is there a way to . . .(direct connect to work computer)

I am wanting to download a particular file. I have LimeWire at work, and at home. I have a file on my work computer I need to download to my home computer. I have LimeWire running at work 24/7, and I have searched for the file at home to no avail. CAN I CONNECT DIRECTLY , OR, AT LEAST, SEARCH FOR MY WORK COMPUTER BY USING THE IP ADDRESS?

Yes you can, but if you want to direct connect to the work computer you'll need to know the port number that LW's using on that computer as well as the IP address. You should also have chat enabled on both & not see the firewall icon on either computer.

There's more info about direct connecting here, click on the link below;)

Oh Wow . . .

Oh Thank you so very much! I will try that. :rolleyes_2:

hhhmmmm . . .

Well, I tried that and it says it can not connect to the host ##.###.##.#:6346. (actual numbers omitted intentionally). I don't have a firewall running currently and I have chat enabled. DO I NEED TO BE AT BOTH COMPUTERS AT THE SAME TIME TO ACCEPT MY REQUEST? LOL:giggle:

No you don't have to be sitting at both computers (be a bit hard, wouldn't it:p)...as long as LW's running on the work computer it's ok. People might be downloading from your work computer & so your upload slots are full at the moment??

Are you sure that neither computer is showing the brick wall firewall icon? Don't forget that there are often firewalls within modems/routers;)

LOL Well, I guess I'll just have to check on my work computer Monday. We are on a network and that may or may not be part of the problem. I have never tried to download anything from work. I was just turned on to LW a few days ago by the Cox Cable repairman. I was a big Napster junkie a few years ago when I only had a 28.8k modem. (45 min to download one song . . . I downloaded over 300!! he he

Check things out on Monday & see how you go. There could also be some firewall associated with your work's internet that you might not be aware of?
You should probably check with whoever's in charge of the work internet...you might find that they frown on using p2p:eek:

Yeah, probably. Thank you so very much for your help and quick response. I really appreciate it. I am just a lonely guy sitting at home on a Friday evening.:( Say, I just now noticed you are from Australia?? Cool. Man, the power of computers. I am in USA. Tulsa, Oklahoma.
