Hi, first time user, I can't get rid of an earlier version to download this latest one ... xp sp2 firefox mozilla... any ideas please

I am assuming your using Limewire. You don't have to delete or uninstall older version before updating. It will do that for you when you update.

If your having other problems, please elaborate. :D
