Try this....
Uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire..

Then use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name. If you can't delete them, reboot into safe mode & then try. If they still won't delete, try one of the tools here...
Incomplete Download File won't delete at all.

Then re-install it using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...

will i lose my songs???

wondering why September 24th, 2007 02:18 PM

No they are saved to your shared folder, so they are safe...;)

gethez September 25th, 2007 03:49 AM

hey,

did what u told me...

limewire is back up and running

only problem is i can't listen to my songs through limewire...

how can i reconnect shared folder with limewire??

michwayne September 25th, 2007 09:00 AM

you will have to go to tools/sharing/basic then add type in the location that your shared folder is like mine is c:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Administrator\Shared or c:\Documents and Settings\your name_Administrator\Shared.

wondering why September 25th, 2007 12:59 PM

If that doesn't help...The limewire player is known not to be reliable, you could try deleting your preference folder....
This will reset your configurations back to default and get rid of any corruption that may of happened...;)
It may get it going again...

i can't seem to find my limewire songs anywhere on my pc, my guess is they're gone

it seems that limewire was linked to i tunes n when i try to open an itunes song it says it doesn't find...

now my question is how can i make sure that when i play a song from limewire it plays it in windows media player??

Lord of the Rings October 9th, 2007 04:22 AM

Too many people think because they see songs in LW's playlist in iTunes that they have been transfered. In fact no. Only on Mac OSX does iTunes actually physically copy the songs to its own library. On windows, the playlist you see is simply a playlist, it points the player to where the song files were when they were added. In this case your LW download folder. So if you have moved or deleted them from there, then iTunes won't be able to find them. (1) To properly copy songs to iTunes music library see How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) {click on link}.
(2) To find your files you have downloaded, go to your LW Library window, select Saved Files folder & press the Explore button. Sample image here: Using Library Explore button to access downld folder (click on link) & the folder will open up for you.

gethez October 9th, 2007 07:23 AM

u have not been reading whole thread, ty for the tip of finding my library though...

my problem is as followed, i lost my files through an auto install of a newer version (dang it) did i perm lose them???

i DON't want itunes or ipod things, i want my files to be played by windows media player cos thats why i lost them in the first place (i figure)

gethez October 10th, 2007 01:18 AM

can somebody help me with this; files bein played by windows maedia player and not by itunes

wondering why October 10th, 2007 01:21 AM

Try this....

Go to your shared folder (outside of Limewire) you will find this folder by clicking on one of your files in your LW library and clicking explore...

Right click on one of your MP3 files
Select open with
Select choose program
select WMP
and tick the box that says always use this program to open this file type
Select OK

gethez October 10th, 2007 01:27 AM

thanks for the help , got it set right now

do you also know why limewire made an auto update and therefore losing all my media files???
do you know where to locate them, they're no longer in my shared folder....

wondering why October 10th, 2007 03:22 AM

That I don't get, that shouldn't happen...
Try doing a computer search for one of the files that have disappeared if you can remember one and see if it pops up...
Also just check your recycle bin...

If you still have no luck try one of the suggestions in this sticky...

problems i have and that i want to solve... ;

- i can only open my songs with windows mp by clicking explore in my library ; how can i make sure they open in wmp just by clicking on them in limewire itself??

- how can i make sur this auto update doesn't delete my files again??
in what folder can i copy/put them to make sure they're safe???

wondering why October 11th, 2007 12:19 PM

Your songs by default should go to C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Shared.

They are suppose to be safe there and uninstalling limewire doesn't effect that folder...Did you change the location that your files where to be saved to before...

To get WMP to automatically play your music make it your computers default player...

To disable LW player go to Tools > Options > Player and untick the box and select apply...

To make WMP your default player
Go to your shared folder (outside of Limewire) you will find this folder by clicking on one of your files in your LW library and clicking explore...

Right click on one of your MP3 files
Select open with
Select choose program
select WMP
and tick the box that says always use this program to open this file type

gethez October 11th, 2007 12:25 PM

i didn't change location of folder but if i remember correctly limewire was linked with itunes...

when i open itunes library i can c the songs there but when i want to play them it can't play them cos they can't find them

wondering why October 11th, 2007 12:38 PM

Actually your the second person that has reported this...Although itunes should have nothing to do with where the files are saved to ...

Was itunes your default player before ie. did you play the songs using itunes ??

What normally happens is once you launch the file using itunes, it is then listed in the itunes library, but if you delete that file from either your shared folder or from the limewire library, the file will remain listed in itunes but cannot be played because it cant find the file to use...

gethez October 11th, 2007 12:42 PM

yes thats exacly my problem i think....

so this happened before, hhmmm....

how can i make sure that itunes doesn't makes itself the player...? cos this happened all automatically... in the beginning wmp was also my player and then itunes took over from itself...

wondering why October 11th, 2007 12:47 PM

Do you use itunes for anything ??
If you don't uninstall it and follow the instructions I posted earlier on making WMP your computers default player...;)

I will post this thread for the other mods and VM's to see, they may have a little more insight to why this has happened..

gethez October 11th, 2007 12:52 PM

first of all, thanks for help and patience man....

is it ok if i just right click and delete it in the start menu....?

wondering why October 11th, 2007 12:56 PM

No go to your control panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove it from there, that way it will be uninstalled correctly..;)

and I'm a Maam...:giggle: lol..

Basboosah October 12th, 2007 08:17 PM

:D Oh WOW!!! WW is a female!! COOOOOOL!!!

There's hope for me yet, then???:p;)

I've had SUCH a headache figuring out my problem.. LITERALLY!!

Maybe I should post another thread so I don't hijack:idea:
