Help with these files!!!(AVI)

What is an"avi" file and why won't it play on my media player?:shoot:

michwayne October 6th, 2007 07:51 PM

avi files are safe but you cant play then in windows media player try this player it plays avi and more click this link VLC media player - Overview

wondering why October 7th, 2007 02:36 AM

You can play them with WMP, you just need the codecs....

For XP this codec pac is very good
Download XP Codec Pack 2.0.8 - XP Codec Pack is one of the most complete codec pack

Or for Vista this pac
Vista Codec Package v4.4.7 Beta 4a (freeware)

wondering why October 7th, 2007 12:15 PM

VLC is the best player in my opinion, but having the codec pac is also a good thing to have...;)

michwayne October 7th, 2007 12:36 PM

anyhow I got both but how dose it effect my WMP or do I have to use it separately?

wondering why October 7th, 2007 12:50 PM

It will just make WMP and many other players play movies...;)

michwayne October 7th, 2007 12:53 PM

Dan, Tried VLC Media Player??

Take a look here for links to lots of different codec packs and Players. CODECs list for Movies/Audio/ Alternate players / Video help forums/ video-mp3 fixers

Within that thread is a link to download VLC player...it's free & has codecs installed to play most file types. It's a very reliable player. :D

VLC Media Player For Sure

VLC media player plays almost ALL files.....i agree with everyone whos says that VLCs the way 2 go. Yer it may not have many...(any) flashy features...or great DVD quilaty video, but its the way to go if you cant play a movie!

dannerad November 25th, 2007 04:37 PM

avi

can i burn to a dvd disk with it 2?

Remoc November 25th, 2007 05:15 PM

No. You'll have to have software like Nero, that will convert and burn. VLC is just a player.

You can take a look at what I use. It will do just about anything that you will need and it's less expensive than Nero.

AVS Video Tools, Video Converter, Audio Tools, Video Editor, DVD Player, DVD Copy, TV Box.

I've got one for ya.

I am fairly new here and I recently downloaded a file with this ending :dvdrip.xvid.axxo. I believe this is a .avi file format right? I have downloaded the VLC player and when i open the file it does nothing but the progressor at the bottom moves to the end and it takes about 10-15 seconds to do so. I have also downloaded the codecs suggested for WMP and installed them but WMP still says the same thing as before. It says it cannot play the file. I am stumped!

Remoc December 7th, 2007 06:01 PM

Probably a fake file. The network is loaded with them. ALWAYS check video files with Bitzi.

How to use Bitzi Web Lookup .. & How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect/Browse/Chat :D

thanks

Hey thanks,
I bet there is a lot of fake ones I've tried downloading it about 3 times and each time got that error. I will use your advice before i download next time. Thank you.

Hey i'm sorry b/c you guys made it clear what I should do but I still have a question. I downloaded the vistacodec package and was unable to play the movie and I know it's not a fake. I want to DL the VLC media player but there's several different versions to DL. There's a self extracting one and a zip kind. I don't know too much about computers. Which one would be right?Thks in advance:)

Sleepless December 8th, 2007 08:27 AM

selfextracting is fine..zip is too

echo87 December 10th, 2007 08:46 PM

I wonder about avi files too. Where are they coming from. Sometimes its the only one that comes up. I'll wait until someone gets it figured out. Also, what about youtube videos. Can they be played and burned? I'm mostly looking for old stuff.

free flv converter

Hey, does anyone know where I can download an flv converter for free? I have already tried Videora, Freez, and a lot of other ones, but I can't find one that is 100% free. I need one to convert the files to wmv. Plz help!!!:confused::confused:

P.S. 'echo87', you should download RealPlayer (the free version). It allows you to download a video from any website. The gud thing is that it is truely 100% free. There are no registration questions or any stuff like that. The only problem is that it downloads the videos as .flv files and you have to wait 'til the video is fully buffered. Which is okay and all, but I want to sync them to my mp3 player. That's why I posted this...

P.P.S. 'REMOC' knows everything... maybe he can help?
