Default .avi to .exe

When you download a music file that started out as avi but they changed it to exe or zip how do you play it? I just get that I do not have permission.

You can't, you have caught a virus that has rendered your music files useless.

You now have to get rid of that virus and, in future, check all incoming files so that you are not reinfected.

Default ????

How do I check for a virus. When I download .avi files they play. When I get a file that won't play or is not what I wanted I delete it right away.

You need an (AV) Anti-Virus application, like AVG (which is free) AVG Free Advisor - Free antivirus and anti-spyware downloads

You know, you should not use the internet until you at least have an AV app in place and a firewall like ZoneAlarm (which is also free).

If you are using the internet without protection then, unfortunately, you are asking for trouble.

Jdresow

Yeah, that should be good enough for general (non-adventurous) browsing but just remember that when you download a file you are bypassing your security apps and putting a potentially dangerous (and possibly booby-trapped) file directly onto your HD.

That's why, in my experience, it is always best to check each file your are downloading with your AV (which should be always updated with the latest definitions) before playing them.
