Filtering Out Previously Deleted Files?

Hello.

Is there a way to delete a file from my hard drive so that in the future when I use the search engine Limewire remembers that I had already downloaded the file so I don't keep downloading the same file? I'm trying to eliminate duplicate files (but with different file names) from my hard drive. I'm working with OS 10.4.
