why can't i get my limewire selections onto mp3 player

i have selected my songs but can't get them to show up on windows media player so i can add them to my mp3 player. how do you do this ? i'm not the most literate computer user so keep it simple..ok. i have a dell latitude laptop running xp professional with service pack2. my firewall is off so is my anti-virus. i have limewire basic. i'm only using half of my disc space right now. i've had limewire on this computer before and it worked fine. what am i doing wrong? cinda49
