I have been trying to burn downloaded movies from limewire onto DVD-R disks to play in my DVD Player, but to no avail. I have tried everything. I have used two different programs to convert to DVD file for burning (Express Burner & AVS Video Converter 6). I have tried several different file extensions including avi, mp4, and wmv. All I can get from my DVD Player and PS2 is disk read error. I have a DVD-RW Drive and am using DVD-R disks. I can play all the DVD's i burn on my or other PC's, just not on PS2 or DVD Player. Please help???

Some DVD players are brand or type of dvd specific. Some may not play dvd r disks. Some will only play either DVD+R or DVD-R. Some players will only play a small range of dvd r brands.

1. Try a different type of disk, + or -
2. Burn at minimum speed.
3. Make sure you are burning DVD video format & not divx or data format.
4. If necessary, try a different brand of dvd r
5. Very important is not to have the overall bit rate of the dvd higher than 9.2 Mbs as some players won't play higher than that & some even lower. ie: Make sure the combination of video bit rate + audio adds up to no more than 9.0 Mbs or less. Also choose variable bit rate with maximum no higher than 8.3 Mbs eg: video target or average bit rate of 7.0 Mbs, max video bit rate of 8.3 Mbs, audio in Dolby Digital at somewhere between 192 kbps - 320 kbps. (192 kbps = 0.192 Mbs)

Also, forgot to mention one thing. i read somewhere that files needed to be converted to vob before being burned in order to play on dvd players. Any truth to this?

Of course yes. Many burner software programs will convert for you. They will convert the video file to mpeg2 VOB audio & video.

If your DVD's do not have VOB files on them, then they were not burnt in dvd video format obviously. Probably as data format.

If you open a dvd disk up you find two folders, AUDIO_TS (usually empty but some players still need to see the folder) & VIDEO_TS. Within the VIDEO_TS folder will be your VTS_01_1, etc. files.
