IS everyone excited about the rush of morpheus users to gnutella?

I think the network is going to grow at a very high rate with the collapse of fasttrack. I wonder how this will affect the ultrapeer architecture.

Unregistered March 3rd, 2002 02:05 PM

I'm excited ....

The network is at 350, 000 nodes right now and holding out better than ever. Finally I can get the great selection that till now was only available on the Fast Track network.

The ultra peers must be working good, because I've had all 15 upload slots filled for a day or so with very few incomplete uploads.

However, I noticed that the new Morpheus Preview uses router.limewire.com:6346 for connecting to the network (probably simply because this is what Gnucleus was using), I wonder how the Limewire guys like 300,000 people using them as a portal without retribution ... bandwidth isn't free.

I use to be a morpheus user... that is untill they put out their new version. All I have to say is that is the worst product i've ever used. It was easy enough to connect and search, but try and get a download.. good luck. I had my entire bandwidth being used to the point I could not surf while attempting to download. Because of the problems Morpheus had they had to push out thier new version asap. (I'm sure all it is, is Gnotella with different icons)

Anyways I have since read up on the whole P2P system and have elected to go with clean limewire and am once again happily sharing and downloading the file I like. It has the best interface for your average user and is easy to configure.

My thoughs, not yours.

We're definitely excited about it as well. We have some really nice features coming along (at least we think so), so look out for them in the next couple of weeks.

Actually all it is a slightly crippled version of Gnucleus with new icons.

Morpheus

Does the fight between Kazaa and Morpheus which keeps knocking out the file********* networks disturb anyone?? Are you worried that they're going to eventually screw up both networks here, or is this good for both sides to try to figure things out??

I like new features as much as the next person, but wouldn't it be a good idea to get the current feature set working correctly before moving on to new things? I hate to whine over $8.50, but I feel like I just paid money to become a beta tester. So far I've been able to keep LimeWire running all of about 20 minutes before it grows to about 90MB of RAM and starts using all available CPU time. Calling the released version "stable" is a serious misuse of language. So far, I can't help but feel I just got ripped off for $8.50.

frustrated

I thought I had signed up for napster, Now I have this subscription to mp3grandcentral, which got me limewire, which lead me hear. All I want is the ability to download any type of music, but I still haven't the ability, and I paid $18.50, to what I thought was napster. Someone help me please!

Unregistered March 7th, 2002 03:09 PM

if its music files you want, look no further than audiogalaxy. it is by far THE best i have tried. i have been using LW for months but was never able to find what i was looking for so a friend turned me on to audiogalaxy and i have it all now! i ran adaware to remove any spy components and it still works great! i even spent $22 on a gold membership because it is sooooooooo great!!!! so many features, so many files, so little time! i only use LW for video files now.

Unregistered March 11th, 2002 09:16 PM

yo yo well umm yah eveyr one did rush to LW but when morphuse gets out of its beta and come out with a mac version well then gnutell might be well destroyed i mean for some reason morphus is stable well more so then LW i dotn know why and LW could fix quite easly jsut make it so that when i click on a dl it dls OK so lest say i want to dl like lord of the rings .avi ok well then i click on it go off to vacation come back and it has downlaoed so what i am saying is that i want LW to look for a users to dl and if i can have mor ppl to dl form then it finds them and lets me and if for like 2 howers no one is on with that file then LW constantly looks for ppl to dl form and when some one comes on it iwll dl form them

Unregistered March 11th, 2002 09:17 PM

audio galixy sucks *** and pay for share will alwas blow becuase free servers will have more ppl to get what you want form

Unregistered March 12th, 2002 04:25 AM

but it is free...i just paid for it becuz it is so good! LW is terrible for music files!

Unregistered March 13th, 2002 04:35 AM

i'd rather use something free that WORKS than something free that has so many problems that it is a pain to use. limewire has way too many problems right now for anyone to actually get what they want from it. and it doesn't seem as if they are very concerned about these problems, either. they only want to upgrade a perfectly good version six months into it before talking to us---the users. then they think they can get us to pay for it. i'm sorry, but i only pay for what works. so i guess they won't be getting any money from me, or any other smart shopper.

I'm not going to involve myself in a fight of wich client is the best .
But the problem is that they all try to show of with their looks .
I have a list of over 25 Gnutella clients .
There basicly all clones of the original Gnutella application itself exept for their GUI .
If you go under the skin of the clients you will see that the only ones actually trying to implement new functions and improve the network are LW and BS .

Now Bearshare can be installed without Spyware and ads if you watch out and don't just click "Next" .
LimeWire has spyware but you can go to Clean LimeWire to get a version without spyware and ads .

So the real war is between BearShare and LimeWire .
And since BearShare is free , they do have a slight advantage in long term .
On the other side you have LimeWire wich keeps popping out new versions with mayor improvements each time .

Up to you to make up your mind .
I'm just telling the facts here ...

I used to have Morpheus and it is a piece of ****. Before that i had iMesh--WOW= some of the best stuff ever. Than i got KaZaa, it great, i still have it even though i got limewire. limewire isn't of such a high quality but the choices are good. My ratings are below:

iMesh - (B+) Pluses-great softwere, easy to use. Minuses-makes weak machines freeze (About 800Mgz and bellow)

Napster-(D-) WEAK, CHEAP, it was the father of all p2ps.

Morpheus-(C) UGLY LIKE MY ***

KaZaa1.5+-(A-)Its good, sometimes can get anoying, good choice.

KaZaa1.5 below-(B+) nice, the patch makes it better

BearShare-(C) Boooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Limewire2.0+-(B) Nice selection of files, Imac looks--FLASHY

Limewire2.0 below-(C+) ehh, what you gonna do?

VTOLfreak March 16th, 2002 04:55 AM

You should not rate clients by their looks but by their performances .

Unregistered March 16th, 2002 06:59 AM

i'm telling you guys that audiogalaxy beats them all. you will know this soon enough. gnutella does not work right. and it probably never will. i don't understand why you all waste so much time helping these developers who couldn't care less about you or your desires for a p2p program.

VTOLfreak March 16th, 2002 07:17 AM

You want to know why ?
Because it has no central point .
They can't bring the network down , no matter wich lawsuits they get against them .
Now Napster was easy to shut down .
There was one central server , you just hit the switch and it was over .

Witch Gnutella you can't ; it's not technically possible .
The hostcaches you say , but everyone can start one .
And I admit the Gnutella network has some problems with scaling but there working on that .

Lemme tell you something : the FastTrack network has the same problem as Napster .
If the damn lawyers decide to turn of the switch at the central servers it's over .

You rate the clients by the number of results you get but did you look at the internals and the technical differences of those networks ?

I prefer to go with an network that will still exist tomorow .
Even if it has some more problems then others .

Unregistered March 17th, 2002 05:10 AM

but even if they shut it down, i will be left with an incredible music collection full of everything i ever wanted. you see, i got what i wanted already, so its ok if they shut it down. if i tried to get every song i wanted from limewire, it would literally take a lifetime. vtol, think of a song or a band that you haven't heard in years...maybe you loaned it out and never got it back, maybe you lost the cd at some point. or maybe it is so old, it was before cds were invented. whatever the case, you'll have a hard time finding it, especially if it is rare. but not with audiogalaxy. it will be there for you.they have it all and more. i understand your loyalty to gnutella and the reasons behind it, but aren't you even curious as to what you may find? i only post this because i am a believer in getting what i want, as others are, too. we all want a permanent p2p program safe from sht-down, but we also are doing this for a reason: to acquire mp3s and such. i wouldn't lie when i say you can find it all at audiogalaxy. it is a tiny D/L and will run in the background of just about anything. i will continue to support gnutella because i believe in it. i still use limewire, but not for mp3s. i strongly suggest you try audiogalaxy. you will not be disappointed!:)

VTOLfreak March 17th, 2002 06:20 AM

Thanks but I'm sticking with Gnutella .
I have never been unable to find something I wanted using LimeWire .
So for me it is working fine .

Unregistered March 21st, 2002 10:38 PM

then i guess you're not hunting hard-to-find mp3s.

Unregistered March 21st, 2002 10:57 PM

Tell Me Hard-To-Find Mp3s

Would you mind sharing some your Hard-to-find MP3s. Let's see If I can find at LW or Bear share ???
You can paste your whole Playlist...I wouldn't mind !!!!

Unregistered March 22nd, 2002 04:54 AM

i am sharing over 2000 tracks now, thanks to audiogalaxy. i have run out of bands to look for! i have everything from all-girl japanese punk bands to sun-ra. i have noticed that when i sign on to LW, i am bombarded by others wanting my shared files.
