illegal downloads - ISP threatening to disconnect my internet service i have windows vista and i use lime wire for everytihing. we also have wow internet service. so i been downloading movies and watching them. i got an email and a letter stating i was illegally downloading movies off the internet now they are threatening to disconnect my services. is it illegal to download from limewire or bitcomet or even frostwire. those are the main ones we use. |
It's not the programs that are illegal. It is the files you choose to download from other people that may breach copyright rules or laws (remember, Gnutella network does NOT have a central server, you are sharing with other people like yourself.) So careful choice of what you download & share back. If your ISP has sent you such an email, then you are probably breaching their Fair Use Policy. You should go to their site & read through it & check what conditions they have set. ISP's can sometimes be a little hypocritical, allowing downloading copyright music & movies from sites you pay for downloading from such as iTunes, etc. (Not to mention such movies can often be video taped off TV. lol) Options: Off-hand thoughts: (a) do not download copyright movies for a time. And if do so in future, keep it to a minimum. (b) look for another ISP which does not have such restrictive fair use policies. (c) do not download copyright movies. Others may have advice to add for you. :) |
WoW!! Take a look at this Gem. If anyway possible, get as far away from these @$$holes as possible. See Link below. WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone : Copyright Infringement Policy and Procedure |
Who IS your Service Provider if you dont mind me asking. had the same problem with HugesNet Satalight ISP after got that cleared up then they came up with a "Fair Use Policy" that limited my Bandwith too 12megs per day downloading if i went over that they cut my speed down to dialup speed for 24 hours. it was like gettin a speeding ticket for surfing too fast and the restiction was the fine. so i have DSL through our local telephone company and havent found any problem with them "YET".... |
i have wow. i deleted a tool bar that i had recently was using and i havent had any problems. so i think i cleared it up |
