Wacky sounds on my computer

Hi. I hope that someone can help me. I had Limewire and upgraded to Limewire Pro. I don't know if that has anything to do with my problem but out of nowhere all of the time, it sounds like an extreme sports channel is playing in the background no matter what I am on. I hear people talking about pranks and bmxing and I have no idea where this is coming from. I have McAfee and I done all of the scans that I could do, I have emptied my cookies and old files. I have a 8 year old daughter who is on the computer alot and whatever this is has cursing in it and I cannot get rid of it. My question is could I have downloaded a song from limewire that had a virus on it? Or where did this come from? And finally, how do I get rid of it? Also my computer is running slow and I have a lot of pop ups. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

1: just exactly where did you acquire your copy of LW

2: are you running a firewall (I don't consider the built in version with XP or Vista to be a firewall)

3: are you using PeerGuardian 2 while on the network

you say you have McAfee, is that just the Anti Virus, or is it a full security suite with a firewall?

if you have a legit copy of LW, and are running a firewall, but not using PG2 then that could be the root of your problem...i.e. the paid henchmen of the RIAA/MPAA, or just general known hackers, hacked you and added in a little something....PG2 has a rather large blocklist of IP addresses that have been identified as being 'bad people'...even when properly running it I've been knocked off the network because of the amount of traffic 'they' have directed at me (basically a DDOS)...

and be honest, have you downloaded anything besides music? or perhaps have fallen prey to a 'needed codec' to play a file and actually downloaded and installed it? been surfing pron sites?..

the fact that McAfee doesn't find anything means squat...for one thing its certainly not the best, and also all AVs and firewalls are vulnerable, and no specific program catches everything...

Google Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware, download them from their makers website (or an approved mirror), install them, and run them....maybe find an online free AV scanner from a different known company and try that....

now, from my experience the tracing down and removing of the problem may take a long time....longer than it would take to back up your data, reformat your drive, and do a clean install of the OS..possible far longer...i.e. it may be in your best interests to do the above and start over with a clean slate...

Thanks. I am totally computer illiterate. I have no idea what you basically just said. So basically I am kind of screwed? I do not surf porn but maybe my husband does (hmmmm....) I know that the version of Limewire was legit but I do know that a couple of times when I tried to download a song and preview it, it stated that there was an error on the file and asked if I wanted to download anyway. I said no but could it have been too late? I believe that I do have a firewall on my windows and McAfee and before I had McAfee I had Norton. I don't know!!! What firewall is the best?

the error was most likely corruption and wouldn't do what you are describing....

as far as what's 'best'....well, that is many times in the eyes of the beholder...I would suggest Googling the subject and read various articles and make your own decision (i.e. I refuse to give any advice other than I use Kaspersky's security suite...I also used to use Norton products)

Thank you!

I just wanted to Thank you so much for your advice and taking the time out to help me. I did what you said to do. I downloaded the Kasperky Security Suite and in no time it detected that I has 14 Trojan Viruses and 6 other viruses!! Norton and McAfee were not able to find them and if it wasn't for you, I would have never found this! There are no more wacky noises and my computer is running much faster because of it! So again, you are a godsend and thank you!!

Eternally Grateful,
Kathleen

Peerless, a hero riding a pale horse. Nice advice. Kaspersky is the best out there, although my adaware has caught a few things it didn't.
Ride On...

is anyone else hearing these voices??

Hopefully not the kids, if it's some kinda porn audio or profanity of some sort.
I think it's on her system, but she seems to think it's gone now because of a scan deletion.

Ha Ha 99rellik. Yes, others have heard it. Now that I have this awesome secuirty, when I was on Frostwire last night, there were so many intrusion attemps. Most of them were Trojan so beware!! I know that all of you probably have a kick *** security system but it's worth mentioning. That's where I think this all started. God damn losers that create this **** because they have nothing better to do. Curse them all!!!

They must all work for the virus protection co's, or 'puter co's, so you need their svcs B4 or after you crash out. B***ards, all of them.
