Limewire 5

I have been using Limewire for many years. Mainly for audio files. I run a "lite cable" connection and movie downloads are about 72kbs normally. On this new "faster" Limewire 5 my downloads are 4 -6 kbs yet when downloading files from other sites I am still up at mere 72 kbs. I switch back to the old version and the download speeds return to normal but I can not locate the files I was attempting to download with 5. I have been downloading "*****" since 9 pm Saturday night with this NEW and Improved Limewire 5. Half the time this movie just stops downloadong and says "waiting in line 2" That NEVER happened in the early versions. I use Vista 32 bit and can not understand how a title is available on this network and not on this network when you open the old version.:yahoo:

Searching depends on the nodes you are able to connect through. When you search, your search goes through the ultrapeers you are connected to, then spreads out through those they are connected to & so on. There is a horizon to the search however. So if you are connected to different ultrapeers, you may find different search results. ;)

I often use Get More Results option by right-clicking search tab. I will do fresh searches every now & again. In LW 5, it's called Find More Results from memory. :)

The nodes and ultra-peers are pretty well understood. What isn't understood is advertised faster downloads by BUYING Limewire when one gets the identical download speeds whether they buy it or not. Access to more files is not a given either, again depending on nodes and ultra peers; but the answer I am looking for is why I am only downloading at 5kbs when I download music files from the same host at 76kbs?

I have also used the find more sources and repeat search and find more results tons of times in the last 5 years. This low download speed is the new one for me.

Yes I did guess you'd used it a lot, but thought I'd suggest it anyway. :) I have no idea why LW 5 is not giving you decent speeds. You are using LW 5 still? Did you check the speed settings in LW's options settings?

Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Super Really Advanced -> Performance & disable Ultrapeer. See if that makes any difference.

The faster speeds for Pro is based on two things. One is connecting to 5 ultrapeers instead of 3, so arguably better search results for the harder to find files. And secondly, you can download from a maximum of 10 hosts per file instead of a max of 8 per file with Basic so if downloading from a high no. of hosts should be able to get very fast speeds depending on the hosts of course. There's no 'major' differences really. Originally buying Pro was considered a donation toward their work/efforts/cause, since Basic is free. However, in more recent years they have become a much larger company so ... :wasntme:

A few of the arguments against Peerguardian is they do not necessarily recheck ip addresses after adding them, so some of them might now be innocent users. Another is the program can be a little memory & cpu hungry on some systems. Another is their website filter has some strange choices. From memory they block this forum, I have no idea why. I'd suggest turning that option off if you decide to use it. lol :D
