What is the default location for download/save?

Help FAQs states:
Past versions of LimeWire used the following folders to save and share files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your username\LimeWire
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Your username\My Documents\LimeWire

The concept of a shared folder is not longer present to avoid inadvertent sharing. Instead, you can add folders for LimeWire to manage and through My Library set which files to share or unshare using the Share Widget.

I add my iTunes files to My Library - this I understand. However, I don't want every file I download with Limewire to be saved to iTunes.

Meant to add that if I look in the folder .NetworkShare, all I see are Limewire versions going back to 4.18.3 (I'm using 5.1.2). Do I save files to this folder and then add it to My Library along with iTunes? There is only an Incomplete folder showing, not a Saved folder as indicated at the top of this post.

I was messing about with Tools>Options>Download and somehow changed my "Save downloads to:" folder.

I attempted to find something like limewire/library but cannot see it.

What is now the default download/saving folder for Limewire please?

C:\Documents and Settings\Account Name\My Documents\LimeWire\Saved
This is true for LW 5 at least. :) LW 4.18 had a share folder. LW 4.18 changed the location slightly from previous versions. If you updated LimeWire & cannot find your Downloads

Thanks but the only thing showing in

C:\Documents and Settings\Account Name\My Documents\LimeWire\

is Store Purchased, there is no "Saved" folder.

Do I need to create one? If so, why? I know I never deleted it.

You may have created your own name for the download location. Search your computer for incomplete .. this will probably give two results .. your old one & the new one. So your incomplete folder will be a hop away in directory from your download folder .. whatever it's called. Saved is the default name given by LW.

The Incomplete folder is empty. As all the current files in My Library are from the link to iTunes, I think I'll uninstall/reinstall LW and see what default settings and folders turn up. Will post back.

Changing the download location will have moved all the incomplete files over to the new incomplete folder. So should just be a simple matter of changing the location back in your options. Unfortunately LW 5 does not have a default button like LW 4 had.

If you reinstall LW, you will find your downloads go to same location as they are now. You'd need to delete your LW preferences.

Why not explore your folders, you will probably find a LimeWire folder next to the incomplete folder, open it .. is Saved inside or another folder used for downloading. Once you know this you can change location. ;)

It worked. I take your point about removing preferences. After uninstall I removed all folders relating to LW. I can only assume it somehow got corrupted.

Now have saved (default) files going to:

C:\Documents and Settings\Account Name\My Documents\LimeWire\Saved

Have added my iTunes folder to My Library and am sharing all on P2P Network.

I take it I wont have to add C:\Documents and Settings\Account Name\My Documents\LimeWire\Saved? Presumably these will automatically be added to My Library?

Lord of the Rings April 11th, 2009 04:09 AM

They will automatically be added to your Library, however I do not think they are automatically shared. You will know if they are shared or not by the greyed out icon. You can arrange the files by that column to see which ones are not shared. ;)

Edit: The share option for downloads is under the Downloads option in Options. :)

Understood, thanks for your help.

Oops just edited in my last line in my last post. You can set whether to share downloads or not.
