New Limewire really stinks!!!
 

Nothing but troubles since I installed the new Limewire version for movie downloads. First, the movies have yet to completely download. I have gotten far less results than what I used to get, and then, they stall half way through. In fact, one movie was 93% complete, and I watches the gauge "unload" all the way down to about 33% and then I got a message that said the file could not be downloaded. The only movies I have in my libaray right now are the ones that I downloaded from the old version. I am very unhappy with this. I got a suggestion from Birdy to install a later version of Java (which I did) and this did not do anything. Also, the system freezes almost all the time and I have to shut down. Then when I start up again, the movies that I had been downloading either freeze, or never download. What's a girl to do?????? Any help for this, or should I just go back to the older version of Limewire. I have a sneaky suspicion that they want you to upgrade and that's why there are so many problems. Thing is, why would I upgrade if I can't be sure this program really works. HELP!!! :bangh::bangh::bangh::bangh::bangh:

Did you delete LW's preferences folder & disable performance options, as well as updating Java?

If download progress goes backwards then it can mean that there's a corruption in the file.

Are you checking files with Bitzi before download?

Have you tried downloading different versions of the file(s) to see whether that makes any difference?

birdy, That's typical nerdy crap. It shouldn't be necessary to have to mess about like that, especially for those who are not technically confident.

The fact is, that the new Limewire5 is a load of crap, upgraded for no good reason and is worse than the previous version. The stupid piece of incompetent developer's crap slows my XP system down thanks to it's using about 50% of the resouces. Also, there is no progress bar, and the search results are appalling. And what's all that install stuff about selecting either a non-sharing mode or a non-sharing mode? If there's no sharing, it doesn't work!

This crock of crap has made my PC useless and I'll shortly be uninstalling it. Good riddance to incompetent idiots. I don't know why, but no matter who I'm dealing with in the computer industry, I keep coming across stupid decisions made by idiots.

And that's a typical rant from somebody who doesn't like the current version. I don't know whether you mistake us for LW employees/developers or whether you just needed to have a good bleat.

The forum offers support to people who're using LW 4 & LW 5. How would it be if we said "Nope, sorry, I don't like that version so I'm not going to give you any advice about that... tough luck... try another one"? It'd be great, wouldn't it?

Get over it. Some people like LW 5, some people hate LW 5. It causes hellish problems for some people & no problems at all for others. Nevertheless - we offer advice if people want to use LW 5. And we offer alternatives if they don't (read my post & you'll see that I had already told varady1 how to revert to an older LW in another thread).

If you upgraded as well as updating, that was a bit stupid - nobody should upgrade to a Pro/paid version unless they're happy with the current basic/free version.

You failed to either recognise or answer the points that my criticism was not against birdy, but against the developers. But it seems you want to show everyone what a big hard man you are as you sit all day wasting your life away administering a forum. Well if you have nothing better to do with your time, and if that makes you feel big, that's your problem, not mine.
