LimeWire sucks, its full of Spyware. You can scan it with an anti-spyware program, but not all spyware programs detect it because LimeWire's spyware is built into the actual program. I highly recommend that you do not download LimeWire.

Dear All

From time to time people like nicklopeke pop out of the woodwork writing all sorts of nonsense about LW containing spyware.

What these people don't say is that they got their copy of LW from a bogus or scam site, where LW, being open source, is crammed to the hilt with malware. However, if they bothered to get LW from the following official site:

http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

they would find that there is no spyware, virus or anything else installed along with LW.

The only other way you could find malware in LW is from a bogus anti-spyware application showing false positives. The only recommended (good) anti-spyware apps out there are as follows:

Ad-Aware SE 1.06 from Lavasoft.
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 from Spybot
MS Anti-Spyware (beta) from Microsoft.

and they are all free.

Anything else is likely to be a cloned rip-off version of Adware and/or Spybot.

Man, your really dumb. LimeWire has spyware. Just because they post something on their website saying it has no spyware doesn't make it true. As I said, not all programs can detect this "hidden" spyware. So smarten up kid.

nicklopeke

From one dummy to another, where did you get your copy of LW from?

Here's another silly question, what anti-spyware app did you use to detect spyware in LW?

Now, in order to keep this thread civilised, could you answer my questions so that we can move on to a logical conclusion.

I'll just say this, I have been using LW Pro since May last year but I am not fanatical about it, I like using it but I have other apps which are more important to me.

So lets both "smarten up", lay out your evidence.

I downloaded LimeWire from http://www.limewire.com/ and used Yahoo! Anti-Spy to scan it for Spyware. I also downloaded SpyBot S&D and it didn't even detect the LimeWire's Spyware.

Well Peerless

Guess what, our good friend nicklopeke used Yahoo Anti-Spyware program, now this is a bit of a laugh because Yahoo has admitted that they will track you around the internet, put spyware on your PC.

However, I don't know enough about Yahoo Anti-Spyware offering to say whether it is any good but I do know a false positive when I see one.

Nicklopeke was wrong when he said that Yahoo sees spyware in LW, it in fact sees the whole program as spyware.

And that Nicklopeke shows that the result is bogus.
