The program is LEGAL all over the world. However how you use it is the issue. If you download copyright material then whether that is legal or not depends upon your local laws. Different countries have different views & laws in this area. NOt all files on the gnutella network are copyright. But if you seek copyright materials, then check with your local laws. Else go out & buy them.

BTW did you ever consider that this question had been asked on the forums before? Most forums require you search your topic before posting a question about it. Otherwise they often just get ignored or removed on many forums. The search button is above. YOu would search legal ;) :)

Questionable

Not only is Limewire questionalbe when it comes to whether it is legal or not, but they are also mis-leading. The customer service is non-existent. I've sent a few messages without a reply. Not one.

They claim you have a 7-day free trial, but will not refund the purchase amount afterwords. Then charge over what is advertised at the time of purchase (roughly $15-16).

They tell you only the selections with the little padlock simple are supposedly legit. I HAVE YET TO SEE A PADLOCK ATTACHED TO ANY FILE!!!

NICE SERVICE!! :xirokrotima:

Turbo88,

There's NO free trial of LW from the official site. Scam sites might offer this but do you really want to download from a scam site??

LW basic is free. LW Pro costs $18.88 & includes free updates & email support for up to 6 months. There is no free trial for LW Pro because basic is free for everybody to use first, before they consider an upgrade to Pro. The only official site for downloading either version of LW is www.limewire.com

The orange warning banner was added because there's a bogus LW update showing up in search results. It's a 75.7 KB .exe & shows up as "Urgent LW update - download & install now". If people download that thing they could end up infected. To try to prevent careless people from downloading a dangerous file, the warning banner was added to LW's interface.

The padlock symbol doesn't apply to music or video etc.

Is there a phone number somone can call to get some kind of person to help walk them through the site?

Also, are you able to preview music or video before you download it?

How do I make the best use, legally, of the money I can't get refunded for this program?

birdy April 14th, 2007 10:41 PM

There's no LW support phone number.

You can't preview any file before downloading. There's no central server, you download files from other Gnutella users.
You can preview a file during download, say after 10-15%, then kill the download if the file's not what you're looking for or if quality is bad. Check video & *program files (music isn't rated often) before download with Bitzi. Right click on a search result > advanced > look up file with Bitzi. If the file's been rated, you'll see other users' opinions of it.

If you were scammed into paying for a free version of LW, you should contact your bank/CC company & report this. They may be able to cancel the transaction & will be able to advise you about whether to cancel your card. Some people have been able to get a refund from scammers...read through the threads below.

Membership? - **BEWARE** - Download p2p Clients ONLY Thru Official Sites (click on link)

get your $$$ BACK!!! (music members)

There is a lot of legal content available, try searching for creative commons. Or have a look below for more info.

*zip, exe & rar files aren't to be trusted as they're often infected. Program files which are clean usually won't be of much use anyway, as they'll need a code or CD to run.

Don't you get it. You were scammed. You bought LimeWire from a scam site LimeWire basic is free to use as long as you want. How on earth do you expect us to know the phone number of the scam site you bought LimeWire from. :bangh: :bangh:

And no you cant preview files before you download them. You can do a Bitzi look up on them before you download them though. The link below will tell you how.

If I were you I would do a little studying before you use LimeWire there are allot of fake files and Viruses out there. And from what I have seen so far from you, you are very likely to get one. You should check out the link below before you use LimeWire. :yikes:

I know I'm probably asking a really dumb question but, I acquired basic lime wire from the official site, I've been using it on different computers for years. I have a problem that I searched for on this site but nothing seems to work, I've found other people with the same problem I mean and the solutions don't work for me even though I've had limewire work on this computer before. I recently sent a message to the support on the site and nothing came back, does this mean they only answer questions to the people who have pro?

wondering why August 11th, 2007 03:54 AM

Yep they will only answer Pro customers...
