Xolox and Gnutella development Hi Xolox developer, Pasman, thx for bringing up Xolox! It was not only a fast & nice client, it also has been fun bringing in own experience and ideas into development! Right now the Xolox team is busy (good luck with all other projects!), so I hope the gnutella development will not stuck as it did the last 6 month. I also hope more coders and developers will find a way into this forum, so we can discuss ideas for Gnutella's future. Meanwhile I will reduce my posts. Happy sharing! :) So long, Moak |

As we can see here the best people are leaving... Thank you Vinnie, thank you Limewire... thank you for your flames and spyware! May be I should leave, too! Gnutella is dying! Morgwen |
Remember the state it was in last year at this time? Gnutella seems to die regularly this time of year! ;-) Peers that don't keep up will just disappear - anyone remember TodeNode? It's really unfortunate to see Lime go the SpyWare route since they always seemed like a class act, but it's open source and if they don't make their users happy someone else will. As for BearShare, I stopped using it almost a year ago when it seemed to me Vinnie wanted to turn the entire gnet into FalcoNet (TM). |
Could you explain us why will you reduce your posts? |
Why? Yeah, I have a new job as pizza baker and for hot jamaican food on a seaside oil platform and it is not possible to get regular internet access here. No, I'm kidding. I expect that Gnutella development again is slowed down and found out that most developers are not interested or have not enough time to listen to my ideas. So I spent more time for other interesting nerd stuff... and watched more TV. :) |
Yes! Pizza! Send me one! :) :D Morgwen |
Yes, thanks... As Moak said: "thx [for XoloX]". I may seem a little critical of it at times, generally due to the frustration level of crashes. But hey: I'm use XoloX as my primary gnutella client, so that says *something* for it. At least, now that I'm running it under WinXP Pro, it doesn't cause my entire system to randomly reboot (as it does under Win2k Server). That makes it a little less infuriating to play with. If I may make one *tiny* suggestion, it would be to put a public ETA on the next release. Then, stick with it and release, whether you have all the features you wanted in there or not. I haven't seen an update since I started using this thing, and that's not good (considering the number of catastrophic-level crashes all of my friends and I are seeing). The longer you leave it in this state, the more people are going to permanently associate it with the word 'buggy'. I understand that its hard to get time to do these things; Lord knows I should have completely rewritten the Bliss32 interface by now. But, that's not a bug-type issue. When bugfixes are involved, I've found it best to make them quick and often (I've made bug-fix releases within 24 hours of learning of bugs in a new release and it *really* curbs the flames). In closing: I think you're off to a good start, and I'm sure everyone here is looking forward to seeing future releases of XoloX. Later! |
