Try clearing your browser cache. Open FireFox and go to Tools>Options>Privacy, under "Private Data" click on "Clear Now...", then untick everything except "Cache", then click "Clear Private data Now", then click "OK".

Then go to Tools>Options>Main, and change your Homepage, >"OK".

Try it and let us know.

yes

I looked on lots of blogs and tried the various suggestions. Removing the application was a relatively easy uninstall, but in the end the only way I could stop my (son's actually) homepage from being bearshare was to uninstall Firefox and re-install it. This doesn't actually take long. Wish I'd tried it sooner.

its actually a PITA, yet 'simple', process to deal with this situation....

How do i get Bearshare off my firefox? - Yahoo! Answers

Unfortunately the program files didn't have bearshare in their name, so it was difficult to find them to delete them. It's a very clever way for bearshare to keep their prog On yr computer. Still, it's done now.

get rid of bearshare homepage

i had this problem and what worked for me was uninstalling a program called ilivid and another one called something like windows.ilivid from control panel/uninstall programs. then i started firefox and after changing the homepage back to google one last time i closed firefox, started it up again and couldn't believe it was finally back to good old google homepage. hope this works for everyone. bearshare sucks!

ray182 March 23rd, 2012 07:16 PM

oh i forgot i also uninstalled imesh too

Lord of the Rings March 23rd, 2012 07:34 PM

Thanks for explaining how you removed it. :) :xeri_ok1ani:

May I ask which version of BearShare it was? Nowadays iMesh and BearShare are more or less the same thing running on their own semi-commercial network, not the gnutella network. BearShare 5.2 and earlier still run on the Gnutella network. I think the BearShare 5.2 Lite version may have some adware/junkware though.

ray182 March 23rd, 2012 07:41 PM

No problem. Sorry i can't remember what version it was. Thinking about it i actually downloaded imesh separately because i couldn't get bearshare to download music so i searched for other music download programs and came across imesh so i downloaded it and it looked identical to bearshare so i uninstalled them both and then i deleted the ilivid ones which had something to do bearshare or imesh or both but i don't know which.

Lord of the Rings March 23rd, 2012 09:04 PM

BearShare is up to version 10 now which sounds like the version you probably used. And yes, iMesh took over BearShare when it was sold.

If you wish to use the gnutella network instead, there are plenty of options. LimeWire (pirate edition recommended), FrostWire 4, . Phex, . GTK-Gnutella, . ShareAza, and even the earlier version BearShare 5.1 Beta which does run on gnutella network but has no junkware.

ok thanks i'll look into them
