Shareaza to Linux Porting Results...

Ok dudes, i am loyal fan of Shareaza, but i want to leave Windows behind to go after a GNU/GPL replacement like Linus Minix (Aka Linux), so, i am trying to port this great program to Ubuntu 7.4 using Wine (Windows Emulator for Linux), so, here are the results,

Installing:
Everything went perfect, as if i were using Win Xp instead of Uuntu, no directory problems.

Running:
There is no problem the central app or none of it's dll's, i have configured Shareaza with no problems.

Connecting:
Here is the tricky thing, as i don't know how to handle IpTables (Linux default Firewall), this data is not accurate, but the router is port-forwarded already, anyway, getting back to the main idea, it connected to G2 even with the issue mentioned above, but only connected to 1 peer, it couldn't connect to G1 or Ed2k good either.
Searching:

Appearently, no search results, so, i suppose something did not went well.

But, i annotate that one must not send it to tray as it won't be close-able (had to reboot for that =P).

Another thing, is that since version 2.2.50 the connection process is so susceptible to false positives of a firewall.

This is for showing results off, this is not intended for showing any bugs.

If you want a detailed log, post the request.

Hope that works for tracking down any bug or somehting else, i can give you the detailed log if you want, still need to learn how to manage IpTables for giving a more accurate result

Look there http://forums.shareaza.com/showthrea...threadid=48029

Shareaza is dependent on MFC (Microsoft Foundation Class) meaning its porting will be very difficult as a native *nix client. As per running it in Wine, you should look there to find what works and what doesn't http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6940

Wine will never achieve 100% MS environment compatibility IMO, so Shareaza might be buggy forever on it.

For me, *Mule+*Wire+BT clients forever on Linux and Mac :wasntme:

Ok, but i will still keep looking for methods to port it....
BTW, you should see the Morpheus porting results.....

Question: by porting, you mean hacking Shareaza code to be more compatible with Wine or are you simply talking about getting the best settings in Shareaza to avoid errors and bugs in Wine?

Dark Guy April 24th, 2007 05:09 PM

I mean, fine tuning FireStarter, Wine and Shareaza so it can be ported successfully

Jonne July 25th, 2007 09:33 AM

first, allow me to be pedantic: running Shareaza under WINE isn't porting it. It's... Well, it's running it under WINE. "Porting" would involve changing all the code to use common Linux toolkits and such, and nobody is doing this (because starting from scratch is probably easier).

Now, there has been a guide in the Shareaza wiki to make your life easier for a while, and it's *link removed*. It should be easy enough to follow for anyone that's a little familiar with both linux and Shareaza.

Hi
Do not get shareaza from shareaza.com this site provides a scam version the true version can be obtained from SourceForge.net: Open Source Software and is version 2.4.
Any info from sareava.com should be treated as suspect.
Check out this web site sourceforge.net/projects/shareaza/

I don't have mod power in this forum, therefore I suggest you to send the respective URL of the post to neglacio; he will correct it ASAP.

You can also use the Report Post button (red triangle) at the top of the post. Explain what's wrong with the post (eg link to scam site) & any mod can at least remove the link, if a Shareaza mod's not online at the time.

Have done the link has been removed
