Exclamation javaw.exe and connection problems

I had a problem disconnecting my internet connection after exitting Limewire 3.8.5 or 3.9(beta). As a result, XP would then not shut down properly.

According to Zone Alarm, javaw.exe is the file which requests internet/server connections for Limewire. I did the following things:

1) Uninstall LimeWire 3.8, reboot.
2) Install Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03 (the latest one from Sun's website)... Reboot.
3) Copy java.exe and javaw.exe from the 'Java 2 RE' installed directory to c:\windows\system32 (thus replacing what was there b4).
4) I then installed LimeWire 3.6.15 (coz i had no problems with it).
5) Everything seems stable at the moment.

If this doesn't work, try step (3) again, replacing the system32\javaw.exe file.

Any feedback would great.

Lightbulb

Got another solution for the above, coz it didn't work after I posted the thing. sorry for that.

The disconnection problem which causes XP to hang and not shut down properly is due to a problem with USB ADSL modems. Basically that's what my ISP gave me:

- Expand "USB Controller" list under "Device Manager"
- Double click on USB root hub (u'll know which one is for the USB modem coz the peripherals it powers are listed)
- Under power management tab, untick "Allow computer to turn off ..."
- Exit that widow
- Scroll up on the "Device manager" list to "Network Adapters"
- Click to expand list and open ur ADSL modem properties window
- Under power management tab, untick "Allow computer to turn off ..."
- Reboot

Hopefully this will work and consistently. Still I don't get why this problem only occurs when I use LimeWire.

stief has a spectacular aura about
Default

the reason you see this with LW mostly is that a p2p client has to actively maintain so many internet connections, unlike the few needed for email or Web browsing.

usb problem, eh! Thanks for letting everyone know about the fix.
