Default Burning VCD that works in DVD player

Ive been reading around the forums, and the program nero keeps coming up. I have Nero but im not sure how to use it. I am currently trying to recode and burn a vcd right now, but i doubt it will work. I have also been looking around on google for free video converters that would change to a dvd player compatible format. i currently have a few vcds with mpeg (im not sure whether its mpeg1 - mpeg4) and it works.

To get to my point, i want to know if someone could walk me through buring a vcd that i could use in my dvd player.

(I posted this in a different thread, but was not responded to)

I have already asked Ganstapimp50 what version of Nero does he use and told how to get the version number, he has not responded.

If he can't be bothered to provide basic information that can be used to help him then why should I, or anyone else, be bothered to provide that help.

In the early days of burning vcd's & even now it's still true. Burn them at minimum speed. Just a couple of yrs ago I burnt vcd's at high speeds & they refused to play. So I burnt them at minimum speed & the problems went away. Same was true for a few of my friends who backed up with their own experience of the same.

VCD uses mpeg1. Nero will convert it for you. (SVCD uses Mpeg2 so you'd need to have Nero 6 or 7 or the nero mpeg2 plug-in for nero 5 to burn svcd's.)

It's a fairly easy process. You choose video format, VCD output, select your video file, & Nero does the rest. Press burn/write & Nero will give you a vcd at the end.

Make sure your dvd player can play vcd's. Almost all can. Not all dvd players can play svcd's.

I'm surprised Peers didn't let you in on a few more details since he has much more nero & vcd burning experience than I do. I do mine on a mac, but I have both nero & roxio on my windows. I'm guessing ukbobboy01 does too. But lack of details such as type of file, version of brand burner softw, brand & model of burner, etc. sometimes makes us reluctant.

Might I suggest, if you have a cd-rw burner, & a cd-rw disk, why not burn a vcd-rw disk. Again, not all dvd players may recognise it but it's better than wasting a disk. I generally use RW's before the final burn so I can clean up stuff such as menus & be sure it works ok (as planned.)

Yes, you are right about the burning software I use, I use NERO V5.5 at home and use Roxio Creator Classic V6.0 at work.
