Exclamation All speeds have completly dropped?

I recently got broadband last month and currently have a 2.2Mbps connection speed....so not exactly slow. I then downloaded Limewire Basic and no problems whatsoever! Searches came up nice and fast and so were the downloads.
But all of a sudden since last week, everthing has come to a hault?!?! The searches take longer to come through and when i try to download music tracks - they take about 2hours to download? Can anyone help me with an answer as to why all has slowed right down? And if theres anything i can do to get it back to normal speed? Much appreciated

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.)

Also see the following link & follow “ALL” the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link)

* If still problems after this, then it might be your ISP who have detected your high bandwidth use & decided to shape the bandwidth specifically for p2p use. (They have a special program that can detect & control bandwidth for specific programs & users.)

This may seem stupid but theres no ''limewire preferences'' folder on my computer?...at least not under that name. I went to the extra thread u told me and read it that it would be under user application under my user name.....nothing to do with limewire is sourced here?

There is a problem here other than deleting Limewire preference folder.

The speed has changed since last week. This option you guys suggest about deleting the folder inside Application data does not work.

Even the Gnutella network forums is not loading as quick and sometimes having issues on database.

Is is it just me something else is going on?

Limewire not connect and if it does finally connect it will only download at 10k / sec and I'm on my 4 meg connectoin cable and haven't had a problem ever since.

The Application Data folder is "Hidden' or invisible. You need to follow the instructions in the sample image. Either your LW prefs folder will be called .limewire or limewire depending upon whether you've previously had an earlier version of LW than 4.10

So don't manually go to that location, use the search function with "show hidden files & folders" option turned on 'before' you search. Deleting the LW prefs might not make a difference to everybody, but does to some people.

Downld speeds depend upon your hosts/sources. So if you're downlding from someone with a fast connection, they may only have a small amount available either due to too many others uplding from them (eg: too many upload slots for their speed) or they're stingy. Also, some people set their LW as having the wrong connection type (eg: dial up users might set it to dsl, etc.)

Inconsistent speeds can be due to many factors. The net is very dynamic & is changing all the time. If you're downlding from someone with a dsl type connection where uplds affect downlds, etc. then their speeds offered my fluctuate. Fluctuations can be due to others starting to upload from them or might be due to local net traffic (net conjestion is a major problem for some ISP's is the USA for example during peak times.) If you watch the speeds of your uploads, you'll notice they sometimes tend to fluctuate somewhat. So ...

If your speed drops, then try reselecting the downld. See the following link & follow “ALL the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link)

Re: The forums slow speed; that's a server problem we're having. Hopefully not before too long we'll be moving onto a faster server. It gets ridiculously slow at the moment.

Just to add I am also facing the same problem when I upgraded to lime wire 4.10 the speed has taken a big hit. I also post a thread(please look at thread Speed Issues version 4.10.5) and tried the same steps given here. No good. I like my good old limewire.

I have uninstalled the new version and my speeds dont drop like they used to on 4.10. The fluctualtion in speed is also less. If you want to revert back to the old version of limewire simply search for lime wire in limewire itself and you may find someone with the old copy of lime wire.

Try upgrading java from
http://www.java.com/en/download/
I also realised i am using a very old version of java. This might help.

Can anyone also help how much is the maximum download speed I can get using limewire? If it depends on speed of Host's i am connected to then if I get Limewire Pro then would I be able to connect to a maximum of how many hosts ?? at present I can connect to max of 8 Hosts.

If I have enabled uploads would it affect my download speed?

OR IF i disable my uploads what would happen? Hope someone can answer this I have more to ask
