And for when a browser is not available to you, go into the command prompt (windoze) and type "ipconfig" without the quotes of course.

I have broadband, and am told that the reason programs on my pc have different ips is because broadband has "dynamic ip", does this mean that that website wont give me limewire's ip address, i ask because limewire once said "if a friend wants to connect to u, he should type ***", but i forgot the number, and it no longer says this, even when i reset the popups in options. i do seem to remember the number limewire gave me being longer than the one the website gave me tho.

The reason the no. was longer is b/c it would have the LW port no. at the end of it; eg: 102.34.25.16:6346

What that website will tell you is what your ip is to the outside world during that session. With a Dynamic ip, everytime you log onto the internet you'll have a different ip.

Out of curiousity can you do this test for us (after LW has been open for at least 20 mins): Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False?

"Out of curiousity can you do this test for us (after LW has been open for at least 20 mins): Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False?" - Lord of the Rings

"Received incoming this session: false"

Thats what it said after 30mins, but i have had people complete uploads from me fine, and Limewire works sweet for me. I think the reason I have had no incoming connections this session (30mins of turbo) is because:

"Your [my] client is a leaf node sheilded by an Ultrapeer"

hence i see litlle or no.... bla bla, it means im extremely remote on the network, and so although i CAN receive incomings, i dont very often, and havent yet this session.

Cheers for the help, Rob

It sounds as though you have some type of a firewall blocking your incoming. Be it a softw firewall on your computer or a modem/router firewall (which generally use NAT firewalls.) The only way people can downld from you would be to force push (or whatever it's called.) If you went to your stats, I think you'd find there'd been many attempts to downld from you but the majority were unsuccessful.

I had a similar situation after I started using a modem-router. All of a sudden not many people were downlding from me (rarely in fact.) I eventually discovered my router needed a port to be forwarded (port 6346 opened) & ever since I've had crowds of people queueing up for my files (dare I say it.)

I have ticked the box "Force IP" for Port 6346. Will people be able to download from me more reliably now?

That depends on your set up. It's not 'always' so easy as that. lol

You don't have to do this, but if you'd like more people to be uploding from you then we'll help you find what it is that's stopping them at present.

1. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: What firewalls you have?
2. Connection type?
3. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
4. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition)
Windows Firewall
McAffee Personal Firewall Plus (Tight Security Setting)
This happens when I try to test my firewall's vulnerabilitys through McAffee:

"Unable to Probe
The IP address requesting this page is different from the IP address of your computer. This indicates that your computer is behind a proxy or NAT. These devices allow you to access the Internet by relaying traffic, typically from multiple computers, through a single IP address.
We are unable to directly probe your computer, you should take comfort from this. You have that much more protection between your computer and the Internet."

I have a 576Kbps DSL modem (BT Voyager 105 USB) and connect to the internet through another computer on my network (via 100MB LAN), the server PC runs Windows Firewall and McAffee (Tight Security)

I have a Mentor 5 port 10/100Mbps Ethernet Switch, which links our 3 PCs.

I'm at home.
Hope there isnt too much worthless info here.
Cheers, Rob
