| The LimeWire 4.1.7 beta has been released. Pro users can download it from their personal download page. The free version is available at the LimeWire Beta Page. LimeWire 4.1.7 adds many new features and fixes many older issues. A quick overview of changes includes... - A brand new bootstrapping system that makes use of "UDP Host Caches" (UHCs). This lets LimeWires connect to the network faster and will reduce the load on all GWebCaches. The theory behind UHCs is that LimeWire now "shouts" into a crowd and waits to hear a response. With GWebCaches, LimeWire needed to maintain eye contact, shake hands, and have a conversation. Needless to say, a full conversation is much more intensive than a few shout outs. This new system should significantly improve initially connecting to the network. - Massively improved firewall to firewall transfers support. LimeWire now maintains a seperate download mesh for firewalled hosts, opening up the majority of the network for easily sharing content. - A new "Pause" button that lets you pause downloads. You can pause active downloads in favor of waiting ones, and can order the priority of waiting downloads via the new "Priority" column. To use this, just right click (or control click, on Macs) on the download column headers and choose the 'Priority' column. - A completely new internal MP3 player (that is a tremendous improvement to the old one) and support for playing OGGs! - You'll no longer see 'block characters' if you chose a language that LimeWire was unable to display. LimeWire will detect the invalid language and revert back to English. - You can now choose 'Disconnect' from the File menu when LimeWire is attempting to connect to the network. - Searching while LimeWire is disconnected or connecting will still allow the search, but also display a message warning that many results may not appear. - All references to 'Shopping' have been removed. - Many many smaller bugfixes, optimizations and improvements! Thanks to all open source contributors and beta testers for your continued help in making LimeWire the best file sharing program ever! Thanks, The LimeWire Team Last edited by sberlin; October 22nd, 2004 at 01:47 PM. |

| LOTR--where does the alias point if you control-click the alias to find original? Good to see another beta out. Thanks, and here are some quick notes. --The Pro Beta page shows size as 3.8mb; downloaded .dmg is 5.5MB --4.1.6 installed fine, but the Console showed quite a few "unable to touch" messages. Here's the last one and a couple of other messages. Quote:
--first two uploads (BearShare 4.5.0.53; Shareaza 2.0.0.0) showed as "Transfer Interrupted" at 21% and 55%. Rejected hash requeries? Usually the first uploads I see complete quickly, but not this time. |

| Ooooh! A new column: Priority and adjustable queue for downloads. Looks like it works as I'd expect. If I try to download, say 100, files from one host, will it only try a few at first to avoid swamping the host? |

| [LOTR--I'm watching the vm too--without using the "browse host", just to get a bit of a benchmark. The VM has been rising slowly] Sam, re the Priority controls: a control-click on the buttons would be handy to shift a file to the top (bottom) of the queue. Also--I did some more proofreading of the TOTD entries, but the notes are a bit long. . . . Re the menus in 4.1.6: Exposé's F10 is sure useful--that's the easiest way to get the focus on the necessary LW window when the "About' 'TOTD' 'Prefs' stc are open ![]() Help->Review LimeWire http://www.limewire.com/english/content/review.shtml gives "This page is temporarily disabled" Help->Tell A Friend http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...l_friend.shtml shows that it was last updated 05/18/04 Help->FAQ-"LimeWire PRO Specific Questions -- NEW!" Good idea. Hope that cuts down on the forum requests. The About box scrolled quite slowly and jerkily. This is unusual. |

| The Priority column is turning out to not be very useful. After setting a single file to the top of a 40-file list three times, it jumped back down whenever its status changed. It would be more useful if it could --remember queue position between sessions --remember queue position between changes in status --control-clicking the queue buttons could jump a file to the top of the queue (clicking a file to move it up 40 lines is a pain). Is Priority only intended to work with the Pause Downloads? |

| Hey! How come this thread's so dead???? To add insult to injury, now limewire.com is telling me to use a "real browser" Well--sniff--I never! Quote:
Fine! I'll just take my Safari somewhere else Seriously though--limewire.org looks a mess from outside. No Jira, bug reports, and waaaay outdated opensource credits page. I hope all is well. 4.1.7 looks pretty good (though VM has more than doubled to 1.13GB over the past 18hrs). I haven't tried to "browse host" . . . so something else is stopping LW from being an app I can run for more than 24 hrs. btw--accessing the sample bug report after 12 hrs is one way to get the HD to thrash and LW to hang (shown in Activity monitor). Well, off to try jum 355 and browsing/ethernet connections. |
