Default a mac novice trying to watch movies on limewire!

Hi All,

Can anybody please help me with watching movies that i have downloaded though limewire? i have downloaded the file(AVI) but it wont run in quicktime and i cant seem to download the correct software to get it running. i have downloaded one of the other free players (VLR?) but i cant seem to change the player that it uses-there is no options toolbar on my limewire.

i would appreciate any help with this!

Thanks in advance,

Rebecca.

There's 2 good players for mac, VLC & MPlayer. I'd recommend getting MPlayer also. http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/ or http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

To change default, select the file, go to file menu, select Get Information. Then change the open with to VLC & click the Change All option. See sample here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...6&d=1159739560

Hi,

Thanks for your help but i am still stuck!

I have downloaded an AVI file and i can see it in my limewire library however i can not get the file menu to switch to my file. i can get this to work when i use MPEG files( i use explore to find the file and then click on it to get access to the menu) however when i try to do the exact same thing with an AVI file i can not find it using explore and therefore i can not access the open with menu.

I hope i am making sense, if anyone can help me further i would be most grateful!

Thanks.

No need to make sense lol
Use Mac Finder search (command F) & search for .avi & you'll find one. Once you find one then follow the instructions I gave above about changing default program for opening AVI files. That sample image link actually shows 2 methods of changing the default. Am I making any sense?

Well thank you so much, it worked and i now have a much better idea of how to use my partners MAC!
Only problem is the file isnt what it says it is.... i have downloaded an episode of a TV programme but it isnt the episode it says it is. i have tried again with a slightly different title but it was the same one. is this a common occurance or just me and how can i find the one i am actually looking for?!

Thanks again for all your help, you are a superstar!

It's always best to check the file with Bitzi, there are alot of idiots out there that like to misname files...

This sticky will explain How Bitzi works...
