Default Please Help!! Weird Problem

Hi Everyone.

I'm using Limewire 4.8.1 on my laptop with wireless connection and everytime Limewire starts and tries to connect to the network my laptop either restarts or gets a blue screen. The weird thing is the same Limewire version on my desktop works fine. I'm thinking it has something to do with the wireless connection. I tried disabling all the firewalls such as XP and Mcafee' s firewalls but still have that problem. Please Help. THanks in advance. By the way, I have WAP enabled on my wireless router. Thanks.

Is it just a blue screen you get or the BSD? Is it a Dell you're using. Some Dell models had an issue that required updating. What type of graphics card do you have & have you updated its driver recently.

To re-iterate some of Night-Fire's questions:

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have?

well, i guess some generic advice could be to uninstall lw, delete the program folder, delete the user folder, run a registry cleaner, restart, reinstall the most recent version, restart again & see what happens then.... maybe do the same with java, too.

And do you get bsod's from anything else? Is lw on a sketchy machine? If so, that'll have to be sorted out before there's any hope.

Yes ElllisD, I also reccomend that you totally uninstall LW & remove Java Run Time Re-Install them & see what happens my PC was frezzing untill i formated about 6 hours ago and so fare so good. I'm not saying formatting will solve the issue but if your desperate theres a final resort.

Default THANKS ALL FOR REPLIES

Thanks Everyone for your prompt replies.
I'm sorry about that.
Here's a more specific info:

--This happens to all the laptops in my work.
--We have one Dell 600m, one 700m, one Sony S270.
--They all have windows XP and Mcafee 2005.
--512mb of rams on all. Hard drives ranging from 40-80G.
--For the graphic cards, I'm not too sure I'll get back on that.
--For connection type, all of them use wireless G to connect to the internet through my NetGear 108Mbs wireless router model WGT624 with Firewall and security type is WAP.
--I use LIMEWIRE 4.8.1.
-- We have 4 dell desktops and they run Limewire 4.8.1 fine without problem.

So I think it's the issue with the wireless setttings on my router.

Please let me know if you guys need anymore info. THANKS .

hmmm, i cant think of anything off the top of my head thats different about laptops in general..... unless that maybe theyre networked less frequently & maybe have less critical updates...... I myself havent seen RF settings causing BSOD's.... I do know that when I do get a BSOD on XP, it's usually a stop error from hardware, so maybe there's a driver for the wireless device that maybe cant handle something. I know if lw sees 6346 blocked, it'll try at least up to 6348- i wonder if lw scans multiple ports at once looking for the closest open one to 6346, and the transmitter might not like that.
The first thing I'd try is to see if the problem can be duplicated when the laptops are on wired connections. Then maybe borrow & install a different RF card & see what happens. Sorry I dunno what else to tell you at this point.
