Unhappy No Connection At All

I am using the Limewire beta 2.1.1 and have not been able to establish a connection to the network. I have read all the faqs and relevant posts to the forums and have tried all suggestions.

I have a G4 Mac cube running OS 9.2 and have a cable modem. I have a relative who uses the same ISP so I don't think that is the problem.

I would appreciate any advice or hosts to try.

Thanks!!

Question No Hosts, just Ultrapeer

I have Limewire 2.0.2 on my Mac Cube G4 (os 9.2.2) and when I start up and it starts connecting, it shows about three hosts for a second then nothing put just one Ultrapeer host. Instead of getting Terabytes of stuff with older versions, I just have about a 100 megs. What the hell is going on?

Thumbs down Err well...

Why should the version matter ..? I've used the same version for about a year now (v1.4b) and it lasted for a long *** time, then died, then worked again and now it's totally dead again.. Won't even give me a single host.

Disconnected / No Files Available

ALSO: I have installed nothing that could have screwed it up. Soooo whatever. . . . .

I was referring to the second unregistered poster as 2.0.2 was an early ultrapeer version. There's a recent post somewhere about trying to use older versions such as 1.4b but having problems with it. For one the auto-connect hosts are outdated so you would need to use the list given in the FAQ (3-6). Also, as the network moves along in development apparently it is harder for aging clients to connect. I am not completely sure about that though.

Unhappy No Connection

I was using Limewire with DSL in California and loved it, but now I’m in Boston with a new cable modem and cannot get Limewire to connect.

My cable provider (RCN) assures me that they do not block access to the Gnutella network but can’t offer any assistance beyond verifying that I do have a stable internet connection--which I do. I can surf the web, Instant Message and connect to AOL via TCP/IP. Why can’t I get connected to Limewire? Do I have a software conflict? Do any of my settings need to be adjusted? I have even removed all but the most necessary extensions and still no luck. This is very frustrating because sharing via Limeware is my primary reason for having a high-speed connection.

Is anyone else on the East Coast using Limewire with RCN? Please help.

Btw, I’m on a PowerMac G4 with OS 9.04.

Also on Power Mac G4 running 9.1 OS. in Boston Area. Not RCN though. Can't connect either. Not since end of December, 2001 using a previous version.
No luck with any version these days. Similarly puzzled.

To verify that your port is not blocked, telnet to router4.limewire.com:6346. I used MacSSH to do this but any telnet client will do. The 6346 as the port number is necessary for this test to work. If you get a "GNUTELLA OK" in a window then the connection is fine so LimeWire is installed improperly or missing components. If you get a connection failure or similar then the port that Gnutella uses is blocked (or in rare cases the server is busy).
