Morgwen and others who keep using silly little GIFs

You are suposto MOVE those silly little GIFs from the server where you found it to YOUR OWN SERVER.
These people were nice enough to provide you with a free graphic, you are NOT suposto use all their bandwidth.

"Any images you find useful, simply save them then upload to your web server. Do Not Link Directly To Our Images and Servers..."

I don't know about other people but I find these pretty butterflies and other silly graphics in messages annoying and space wasting.

This is exatly what I have done... I have uploaded it to the gnutellaforums server, what CycloCide allows, so where is your problem?

Next time before you write such crap and accuse somebody ask first and complain than about it.

P.S.:

Perhaps you should register to find out the options of vBulletin!

You just posted in this thread

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...php?forumid=19

and the GIF is this link

http://animations.fg-a.com/links108_a.gif

Or it was, I hope after this you change it.

So it's obviously not on this server, and I have seen others doing the same.

In my opinion, all these pretty little GIFs are not helping this board look professional.

Sorry I have to be the one to point this out, no one else will.

Otherwise I love you, and your attitude, and your service to this board, and all your posts.

Morgwen May 29th, 2002 09:50 AM

I thought you are talking about the avatars...

About this annoucement, I copied it from ursula`s post - I changed nothing and I am not going to do it... ursula posted this and made it sticky... I moved it only there - I never used GIF in a post or I am going to use it...

OK, then the title of this thread is hereby changed to

"Ursula and others who keep using silly little GIFs"

Sorry for the mix-up.

Unregistered,

This is one of the advantages of becoming a regsistered user at GnutellaForums.com. This will allow you to disable the display of any images or attachments in posts (so they won't take up any of your bandwidth).

For those already registered, click "User CP" at the top, select "Edit Options" and set "Show image attachments and [img] code in Posts?" to "No".

Unregistered May 29th, 2002 11:09 AM

cool.
you almost convinced me to register.
almost.
is hotmail still free?

I do not know exactly what you mean when you refer to, "Look professional", but I do know that it is important to remind you that the vast majority of people using this board do not have any problems with thinking of themselves as professional.
They are here for fun---- Yes, many are here for assistance, but it is to help them do something which is for fun. Only fun.

Considering the many problems that people are having with the newer editions of the popular clients and the enormous problems that exist regarding incorrectly configured machines out there, I would hope you would devote your time on these boards to helping others with the REAL problems.

And--- wait for it, here it comes--- if you are going to assist others with their problems, which would certainly be a 'professional attitude' to display here, you will really need to register so that those you help will be able to thank you :p

Relax

And you just don't get it.
Your little "scanner bar" is taking up SOMEONE ELSE'S SERVER BANDWIDTH!!!!
http://animatedgif.net/barslines/slidbar_e0.gif

so this poor guy who is giving away free GIFs to people is now having to pay because you won't do the nice decent thing and put the GIF on YOUR OWN SERVER!

You totally missed the point.

Paradog May 31st, 2002 05:55 AM

Whats the fuss about it?
I mean I can understand you if it is your server from
which the gif is linked to but I think it is not really THAT
important.

But hey,
Ursula lets just solve this little problem.
I have uploaded that gif image on my server.
http://216.26.161.50/scan.gif

So if just change the link on this url so Mr. X is satisfied :)

Paradog June 1st, 2002 05:38 AM

You mean that linking an image from a personal server?
Yes. It can be done on every HTTP Server.

Unregistered June 9th, 2002 06:25 PM

er, that's not entirely correct

Just try to link from a Geocities server etc. They only allow images to be viewed as part of a locally served page...

If you try to just server an image to a remote page then you'll find it doesn't work.

ursula June 9th, 2002 06:36 PM

Hi Paradog........

Sorry no reply to this until now, but I didn't see it until now.
View New Posts certainly has some weird behaviour patterns!
I'm just finishing a new OS install and all of the fun that goes with that, but I'll be in touch with you soon. ;)

Geocities, now owned by yahoo, puts tons of java into pages that wastes resources, disallows lots of things and puts those stupid ads. The scripting also contains errors.

They impose harsh bandwidth limits and limit anything that resembles an image to be called from a page on their server, however the http server itself doesnt do this. Apache and IIS both will send an image to anybody who requests it, as long as they're allowed to.

RealBigSwede June 30th, 2002 10:51 AM

Yeah!!

Go for it Ursula!!!! I agree with you...:D And unreg, Please reg yourself. Then you can turn it off, so, you can save you bandwide.

backmann June 30th, 2002 08:58 PM

I remember when I had my site on Geocities. Thank God I found a better server (and my own domain).
