Popups

Cyclo, I plan to install a popup filter now that I get popups on more pages I visit, including GF. Nothing against banners, but the popups are just to annoying and entice me to activate a filter software on my proxy.
Maybe others will do that too and maybe filter also the banners "in one run", because the filter software does provide it all at once.

Greets, Moak

I was going to start a thread about pop ups too. Why did they come all of a sudden

I didn't change anything. We've been using the same ad code since last Summer.

There are popups. Have a look into the HTML source of every gnutellaforums page:
There is a link to http://ads1.ad-flow.com/?DC=gnutellanews-Top (showing banner on top),
which now starts also a popup (in IE6) showing:

http://www.merittravel.net/indexblack695.html or
http://ads.ad-flow.com/?DP=57369&AI=...9768&MH=1&MW=1 etc...

Block pop-ups etc free ... not HOSTS file

If you hate Ads you need "The Proxomitron" freeware.

I am seeing NO pop-ups and NO Ads on the forums with no editing of my filter lists.

I use a free tool called "The Proxomitron" on a Windows box. It runs under WINE on Linux too.

This is a Universal Web Filter tool and is the base for the commercial adsubtract program. You can change, add or delete any HTTP header, any HTML code or script on the fly. This tool rocks and with some time improving my filters I now block at least 80% of the Ads on the Web! You can make filters to allow pop-ups after a page loads but not during loading or during closing for example. Blocks banners and anything else you desire too. ANYTHING! Scripts, ActiveX, any word, ANYTHING!

Let me give you an example:

I wrote a filter set for a buddy who is leaning German.
I have a regular expresion type list of ad servers to block.
My filter looks for graphics from the ad servers and as I load a page from the web it changes the HTML code to substitute my own banners in the place of the ads, but keeps the same dimensions and placment from the HTML of the pages I am filtering. I made 100 animated GIFs with the 100 most common words fading from German to English (Dog fades to Houndin). Now when my buddy surfs he gets to see German language helper pop-ups instead of ad-flow or doubleclick or visa graphics.
This also tripled the speed of MY net surfing since I am blocking graphics or loading alternates from my local machine instead of off the web.

That's the kind of power this program offers!

Anonymizing proxies and lot's of other stuff too!

Search for it! "The Proxomitron" rocks, rocks rocks!

That popup is a really great idea to get more spam. Show a I-want-to-get-shagged-JLO-like-girl and the possibility to enter your current email address. Sweet.

PS: But the girl looks nice!
