FreeWire

Any reason you don't include FreeWire among your listed clients?

Paradog July 17th, 2002 01:45 AM

It is not listed here because FreeWire is just a clone of
LimeWire. There are loads of clones out there from LimeWire, Gnucleus and some other opensource programs.

The only real clone which is listed here is Morpheus (its a Gnucleus clone).
Its just listed because Morpheus has such a big user community.

So smaller clones dont get listen but really big ones do,but all non-cloned clients are listed?

When you say cloned do u mean and exact copy just with a different icon and name?

Paradog July 20th, 2002 07:22 AM

A clone for me is a program which has adapted the code from another one. If they havent improved the application it is just a clone.

All clients listed here are either big ones (I would rather use the word well known) or clients which are proven to be functional and not harmful to the GNet.

There are dozens of LimeWire and Gnucleus clones, we cant list them all here...

I think yall should have a list posted somewhere of EVERY Gnutella client cause they all contribute just a little bit :)

Paradog July 21st, 2002 07:15 AM

Dont be too sure...
There are so many clients there which are bad coded and only
flood the entire network with queries and pings.
(*Clearing throat* pointing slightly at QTrax)

Yes but they all help a LITTLE bit do they not?

Paradog July 21st, 2002 07:22 AM

Does flooding and slowing down the network help?
Non-Functional or malicious client dont help much...

Syfonic July 21st, 2002 07:23 AM

They dont help "much" but they do some

Qtrax

Qtrax doesn't even share, do they?

So, all they do is spam the network, hammer users, and use up bandwidth that other (friendly) sharers could be using.

I fail to see how this is a help to the network, but, of course, I could be wrong.
