HELP!! ad killer

Hi I got a program for a while ago that killed all ad when I surf the net, I lost it. It had a green triangle. I sold my old computer and fogot to copy in in to the "new" computer. Please tell me where I can download it, again. It's not Ad-Aware!!
Thanks
:(

Blocking ads is akin to stealing. Most sites support themselves through banner ads. By blocking those ads, you're freeloading their content and leeching their server resources and bandwidth.

... and animated banners and popus are anoying and a terrible unfriendly slap in the face of fair users. PS: I think Promoxitron is the name of the app.

If you buy a newspaper, you don't have to look at the ads, but the advertisers still pay for them. When you block banner ads, advertisers don't pay for them. Your analogy doesn't work.

I have no interest in developing a client; I run web sites. By blocking the ads on these web sites, you're freeloading content and consuming server resources and bandwidth. If you don't understand this simple concept, then maybe you should get a life.

Hello!

Well it seems that all the fuzz in this thread is originating from a misconception between RealBigSwede and CycloCide the system administrator.

Personally I think it is Okay to block Pop Up adds on sites that uses them especially multiple Pop Ups are hated.Pop Up adds must be the single most hated phenomena on the Internet it is close to user terrorism and they do not do no one any good. Not the users that will get very slow surf speeds and alot of irritating windows to close and not the companys that uses them because the users(visitors) hates them they will get irritated towards the companys that uses them so their brand name will suffer from it.Conclusion no one benefits from them they are just harmfull and I have a hard time believing that CycloCide actually likes them so I thinks that it is OK to block those *******s(Pop Up's).

What I do not think is Ok is to block Banner adds. The reason is because they are not as harmfull nor irritating as Pop Ups and yeat they are the ones that pay us visitors. The payment is the ability for us visitors to freely(for free) visit for instance a newspapers web site.If many users start to block those adds then the willingness amongst advertisers to pay for advertisment severly diminishes and we the users will suffer from it because alot more sites would start to charge us money instead and I and most others do not want that. These are the types of Adds that I think CycloCide are reffering to when he states that he do not like add aware software. But I do not think that he has anything against blocking of Pop Up's surely he must hate them just as anyone else does.

Paradog August 3rd, 2002 08:15 AM

I dont mind banners, they dont bother me much as long as they keep this forum alive ;)

RealBigSwede August 3rd, 2002 10:06 AM

For ppl with dsl and faster i can see it is no peoblems, but to 56k it slows down the surfing to less then halv speed and more. As Kathy probley knows i can take upto 1.5 minuts to download a webpage and more if it is hevy on ads. When I go to a web portal it can take upto 3 minuts to get the whole site on my screen, all because of ads. By blocking them out it takes 10-20 second, for the same website!!! That is one of the reason, why I HATE ADS!!

ursula August 3rd, 2002 04:45 PM

And...

Your garbage Proxomitron is going to eliminate what you do not want BEFORE you get it ?
Gosh... Really ? Hey, Real BS, check out what else this 'little' app does to your system... LOL

Tell you what, RealBigSwede...

The entire p2p world awaits YOUR site...

Publish the details here, free of charge, of course.

Got the message?

I say these things because, obviously, an intelligent person does not continuously proffer the same argument, but, instead, goes OUT and PROVES their ability to do better...

I can't wait, "Real BS"... I'll even be a moderator for you, as long as Iain can join me...

"I raise you and I call you..."

Up to you now, Really BS...

'urs the curse'

when you try to look wise don't laugh about something you don't know.

web washers like Proxomitron exactly do what you laugh about, they prevent loading of banners. and yes Proxomitron is spyware free. A little Google would have helped you and you looked better when you posted less.

Unregistered August 3rd, 2002 08:19 PM

PS: understand how http and image formats work... or simply try a web washer. you'll be suprised how much faster page loading is and how clean web pages can look without disturbing ads. no more annoying blinking banners, no more popups.

You do realize that ad revenue is usually the primary source of revenue for these content providers, right?

They're not using our server resources or bandwidth. They're being served by an ad network.

I am not being a pain in the ***, I am ignorant about this and would be interested in the algorithm that would allow detection of blocking....I have an idea, but would love to be educated in a non technical way...As I say, I am ignorant about such things and if you start getting way technical, I will be totally lost. Thank you.
There's really no reliable way to detect if people are blocking ads. If there was, a lot of publishers would be using it.

I don't particularly like pop-ups, but if sites depend on them for revenue, then so be it. I'm not blocking them.

For those of you that are blocking them, you're hurting the sites that are running them, not the advertisers.

This forum isn't going anywhere. It doesn't cost much to maintain compared to other sites.

wheelz-off August 4th, 2002 10:27 PM

I dont block the ads, too much time to do, but I do kill the hell out of pop-ups, so far my pop-up killer has killed over 7,000 pop-up windows, it doesn't block then it just kills them once they load, no harm done.

Killing popups is something else.
Popups can be really annoying. If you use Opera you can disable Javascript and Popups, if you are surfing on low bandwidth you can even shut off the grafix.

Opera is cool and ad supported :)

Now I'm not bothered about replacing it, I can live without it and banner adds are no problem. As for popups, they are a pain, but I don't tend to visit sites that use them, not by choice, just by accident. :)

Kath: I'm not visiting porn sites.... , its evil!

I had a couple of site myself and I did not have ads on them. I think if you have a site, don't try to stuff visitors with ads, they have come to see your site and not all this ads and popup. :)
Yes that is maby true, but it effects my download time. And I don't get payed to sitting and waiting for the ads to be loaded on my screen. ;)

Well, if there were no ads you would be sitting in front of a empty homepage telling you that you got a 404 error.
Without ads the server wouldnt be able to be maintained.
Also CC has to eat something, he's no robot. Even robot need electricity (which is money)
