Pages are loadig Sooooooo slowly

Looks like I'm the only one who uses this forum for it's true purpose:):):D

For the last three days or so The forum pages seem to be loading in a different manner, and more importantly quite a bit slower. I just rebooted it was so bad, to no avail ... Am I alone in noticing this?

U2 Great band ... thought it was 'cos I was running outta bandwidth. Yep I've got plenty of these messages over the past 72 hours. Looks like a server problem. (Knock knock .... or should that be like the old TV's ... give it a good bam on top!)

Only A Hobo December 20th, 2005 03:29 AM

Possible exaggeration ... I have not got a page to load in less thean one minute, today, and often they won't load atall:( I will post by snail mail in future, now.... where did I put that address?:)

Lord of the Rings December 20th, 2005 06:13 AM

Have you had any of those messages like above yet? It's been a total PITA. Sometimes it recovers slightly ... then it returns to the slow mo. I quit the forum for those reasons. I've just come back & it's the same. The admin was contacted. In fact, one thing that did get fixed was the forum clock. Well we have to start somewhere. lol :D At least we know what the real time it is now. Perhaps the clock is slowing down the forum ... a pendulum ... either the clock runs slow or the forum does. :D

Hey I was actually able to post & edit my post without having to reload it several times. Hopefully no more blank/white pages. Hope it stays the way it is at this particular moment.

Only A Hobo December 20th, 2005 06:46 AM

LOTR I've not seen the dreaded message today. It doesn't seem to get that far lol and so far I've been able to senrd this reply albeit a little sluggishly. it's 14.46 and I'll hit send reply:)

Lord of the Rings January 5th, 2006 05:05 PM

IT seems last week or 3 we've been going thru the same stretches again of slow loading & error messages. The worst I've seen so far was (1) the page code ... html for the entire page. (2) Posting & editing a post & losing information from the post. (3) Sending a 3 or 4 paragraph pm & the receiver only receiving the 1st line of text. I confirmed it when I checked my saved copy.

I've had other members either mention it in pm's to me or mention they didn't feel inspired to search for more information on the forum in their post because of their forum browse problems.

Hopefully we can get this sorted out before too long. It's not something I can deal with from my end other than contacting the forum owners, etc.

Only A Hobo January 21st, 2006 07:13 AM

Regulars are tiring of the slow progress ... which still exists after the search function has broken/been switched off, and are not bothering to visit the forums any more. This has been said in e-mails to me.

I'm off now. ......... I have more to do in life than wait for these wretched pages to load:(:(

Someone said patience is a virtue .... lol :D Must be mistaken for sure. It's simply something we'll have to live with until it gets sorted out. Who won, the tortoise or the hare? :D

Only A Hobo January 21st, 2006 09:30 AM

Whoever said patience was a virtue was obviously setting a lousy example and was by no means virtuous him self:D

besides which .. I thought the owner of this tortoise should see some complaints from the users to prove to him that there is really a problem. I really am tearing my hare out here:):)

6_pac January 21st, 2006 11:00 AM

Hobo's right! I can't work under these condirions:(, we better get a raise or something:)

Only A Hobo January 21st, 2006 11:10 AM

Shall we strike for double the pay

.. Hi 6_pac some newbie's tried to hi-jack your sig. username 310 and don't even think of asking me to search for it LOL. Hopefully he's had the decency to change it:):)

6_pac January 23rd, 2006 10:20 PM

Um ... I don't want to hear about lost posts at the moment.  Um ... actually I do. If you think there's any posts missing anywhere, then please tell me.

CycloCide January 24th, 2006 07:02 PM

The forums should be loading faster now. Is anyone still seeing slow loading times?

Only A Hobo January 27th, 2006 01:13 AM

hmm ... we seem to be getting the database problem dreaded error message more than ever now however :(:(

Lord of the Rings January 27th, 2006 02:36 AM

I've been getting them also. So much so .... I gave up earlier. I think one of the legs fell off the crutches. :D

Only A Hobo January 31st, 2006 03:48 AM

No change really

There really is no overall improvement that I can see .. Search is OK that was some other glitch .. a one off I suspect ............but .. This morning UK the error messages are flying out. It's not good .....

The pages are still loading at no speed at all often and the last 2 days the error message has appeared far too often. :(:(:(

Peerless January 31st, 2006 03:59 AM

Apparently the technician was sent to hospital with severe stress shouting out .. no more .. no more "ahh ahh"... inundated with innumerable error messages sent to him ... just couldn't cope anymore. Anyway ... he's laughing all the way to the funny farm with his favourite animals. Cuddles the teddy bear & barbie the ... love of his life ... in the playhouse.

Actually from my end things are starting to show positive signs. Things are on the improve for sure. Or was that sewer.

Jokes aside. The forum is getting back! Patience & clearing out the cache does wonders with the browser. The improvements are sort of felt bit by bit I've noticed.

Lord of the Rings February 1st, 2006 01:27 PM

Apparently the site technician has decided to return, but only on condition he can keep his buddy cuddles beside him. He will return by the end of the week. He promises to fix what he can still remember to fix by then. lol :D But he might still need some reminders! :)
He wanted to know if it's ok to bring barbie along also. That's his cat. ("Sharp Teeth!")

6_pac February 1st, 2006 09:54 PM

Still getting that error message:(.The forums will be sailing right along and then you catch a spell with the error msg. It last a little bit 1 to 5 mins then it goes away:confused:.

Only A Hobo February 5th, 2006 05:22 AM

Is it just me? ... or does anyone else find that they go to reply to a post and find they are not authorized to do so. the last 12 hours or so a LOT of posts have gone missing. ad I gather there is some corruption of the database or something.

oh well if some one finds a new post at the end of an old thread "Get Caught"
perhaps they could move it to somewhere else and answer it cos I can't get near it.

End of moan ...

roll on a week or two when I am told there will be a new server ... I cannot wait:)
<fingers firmly crossed>

Another hobo February 5th, 2006 01:42 PM

That only a hobo went off in a right mood mumbling that he couldn't even get into Open Discussion.

I last saw him hopping onto a freight tain heading south....................

Peerless February 5th, 2006 01:46 PM

OK...let's all take a deep breath...a nice Thalmic pause...

AND STOP BEATING A DEAD HORSE TO DEATH....

all the admins and mods know there is a problem, and it will hopefully eventually be dealt with..

OK??????

Peerless February 5th, 2006 02:36 PM

its a term from an A.E. VanVogt series of books called NullA...

basically it means to take a deep pause which will clear the brain of 'prejudices' (prior thoughts) on a subject

CycloCide March 30th, 2006 12:15 PM

We upgrade to the latest version of vBulletin, so all of those problems should be fixed now.

6_pac March 30th, 2006 04:29 PM

WOW! This is nice:). Like a breath of fresh air. Hope it works as good as it looks;). Cheers to the powers that be.

Grandpa March 30th, 2006 10:28 PM

Speak for yourself HoBo you know I like to break things. But I think that maybe I wont try to break this.:D I really missed the forum not working properly. Cycloid I really like the new format.

This is how 3.5 looks out of the box.
I'll bet 2.3 wasn't changed much either.
With all the traffic through here, simple is a good way to start. ;]

No, neither version was customized much, but if anyone wants to work on some custom styles and/or graphics, please feel free to.
