Feature Request for Forum

A lot of forums have the option for the treadstarter to mark it as solved when he/she/it? is happy with the replies.

Wouldn't it be a very good idea to have it here too. Especially since this forum mostly deals with problems with P2P software.

I think it would make the forums much more userfriendly

don't you ?

I have seen one or two forums that run like that. But I was under the impression it was the moderators who decided when a thread should finish & when the topic was starting to deviate from the original question(s) & thus split it off into another thread. (I think they also had a rating system. Or perhaps that was another forum, where points were awarded for interesting & relevant threads & answers. I'm not sure I especially liked the concept or the way it came across as a visitor. But then I haven't been involved with it so I don't know how well it works & how annoying that might be to some people.)

But I see your point & an interesting & relevant one. It could certainly be helpful to members. But then again, there's too many members who just jump in & post a new thread without searching their topic for answers, or looking at the stickies which already have 80+% of most popular questions answered, or reading the forum rules. :D It is no exageration that over 90% of questions asked on the forum from day to day have been asked before.

I do not mean that the tread will be closed, if it is marked as solved. There can easyly be other answers that are better than the one that helped the treadstarter.

It will just mean that the original post has been answered, which means that the tread will not be relevant to many that, as of now will open the tread just to find out after reading through all the posts that it has been answered.

I am a member of another Forum where it is an option, and it really saves time.

Forum moderators could also mark treads as solved incase the treadstarter hasn't done so, if he/she has written a reply saying that it is resolved.

LOTR check out Daniweb IT Community Its a similar site allthough much bigger which deals with techissues and malwareproblems etc.

They use that option and it works great

Sleepless, get rid of your signature, please. It's technically wrong, disgusting and offensive thus violating the forum rules.

It may or may not be offensive to freeloaders. i think that freeloaders hurt the network, thus the less there is of them the better. I want them to think about what they are doing, and maybe change their settings. Gnutella was made for P2P sharing not freeloading.

I don't think it's technically wrong. It's the God honest truth

As to disgusting and violating the forum rules I don't really know what you mean ???

P.S. If you are a happy sharer you shouldn't be offended at all ;)

I like the idea that the original poster can add a quick check when the question is answered.

Might be a way of reassuring respondents that the original poster has seen the answer, and is reasonably satisfied.

Currently we don't know if the answer worked unless the poster takes the time to write an aknowledgement.

This would also help others looking at the thread.
