Don't forget the complaints division song also went on to say that we should

Quote:

Go through life with a plastic girl
or boy at your side...
end ended up to say that we should all

Quote:

'Go stick your head in a Pig'
No wonder the chief executives of the Sirius Cybernetics corp. were the first against the wall when the revolution came...

Joking aside however, I went into the Rants forum after I saw the link. It's one heck of a scary place! Although it is nice to have a location where the flamers can lurk and not pollute the main forums here and elsewhere. I'd have to agree with Morgwen, they've already one hole to post in, methinx they need no more!

Sirius Cybernetics? Am I missing something?

H2G2

The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, written by the late Adams Douglas Adams (sic)

========

The Hitch-Hikers guide (first electronic edition) details the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as a company that built everything up to and including Nutrimat (vending) machines (some of which, when asked to serve a nice steaming cup of tea, produced instead something that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea). These machines which would then say in hushed soothing tones 'Share and Enjoy' as you either drank your beverage, argued with the machine, kicked the machine to a state of non-functionality or committed suicide (whichever was easier and more satisfying at the time).

The guide goes on to further say that the Complaints Division (an extraordinary large part of the corporation) had a song called 'Share and enjoy':

Quote:

Share and Enjoy, Share and Enjoy,
Journey through life with a plastic boy
Or girl by your side, let your pal be your guide,
And when it breaks down or starts to annoy,
Or grinds when it moves and gives you no joy
'Cos it's eaten your hat or had sex with your cat,
Bled oil on your floor or ripped off your door,
And you get to the point you can't stand any more,
Bring it to us, we won't give a fig. We'll tell you
'Go stick your head in a Pig'
In it's final remarks about the company, the guide concluded that there are those who feel that the Chief Executives should be the first against the wall when the revolution eventually comes.

Curiously, a later edition of the Hitch-Hikers guide that fell through a temporal hole in the space-time continuum had an addendum that stated that 'The Chief Executives were the first against the wall when the revolution came'.

To those who know of (and love) it, H2G2 is a sort of a mantra for life :D

Never heard about it... When was it first published?

RachelHeath November 29th, 2001 06:41 AM

If memory serves it first appeared as a radio series on BBC Radio 4 in 1978. At the time it was shunted to the dark corners of a 10:30pm nightly slot.

However, word soon got around and very quickly the BBC rebroadcast it at 11:00am on a Sunday morning. It was at this time, as a wee lass, I started to listen to it and got completely hooked.

Soon after that it got turned into a book, then a second radio series, a second book (which differed somewhat from the radio series), a computer game (maddeningly difficult and bore only a small resemblance to either the book or the radio series), a TV series, and a third book.

Some time later, the H2G2 trilogy expanded to 4 then 5 books and is now known as a 'trilogy in 5 parts'. In addition a book of the radio scripts was also published. Also, a web site dedicated to replicating the Guide (albeit with mostly earthbound data only) started up and is now run by the BBC at The Hitch Hikers Guide Web Site

Tragically, Douglas Adams passed away earlier this year whilst in the process of writing the 6th book of the trilogy. Apparently this book will be published (incomplete) on the anniversary of his death next year.

Books:

The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy,
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe,
Life, the Universe and Everything,
So Long and Thanks For All the Fish and
Mostly Harmless.

Amazon have excerpts of the first book available to read at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...32#reader-link
