All Stopped!

Hi,
I downloaded a .exe file which has stopped xolox working. I believe it was from the Goonies whoever they are.

When I try to open xolox I get an error message "required .dll file C:\Windows\System\ImageHLP.dll was not found".

I have tried reloading xolox both version 1.22 and the new 1.23 but to no avail.

Any help greatly appreciated as I miss Xolox badly.

Thanks all.

Most likely you downloaded a virus. Most likely the virus deleted a few dlls. You will need to find them elseware (try another computer, but be careful not to spread the virus) and replace them. Reinstalling Xolox will not fix that. I would recommend trying to eradicate the virus first befor you try to fix anything else. You should be more careful with the files you downloas, especially exes.

Antivirus software can only go so far. It can only catch things it is looking for. Do not depend on any antivirus software to protect you from viruses, the number of types of viruses is only limited by what people make so there is always many more thatn you are looking for.

I really need some help!!!

My Xolox program (1.32) is saying "Connecting to Gnutella network..." I was hoping you could help me-why won't it connect?!?!?!?!!? I went to the website, and i did exactly what it told me to. I scanned the program for a virus with "Norton AntiVirus" (really good by the way- I suggest downloading it) and I've tried EVERYTHING. (ie:hitting my comp., yelling @ it, breaking my foot while kicking it, smashing my head against it, everything the stupid website told me to)I really wanna download crap and I can't because I WON'T connect!!!!!!!!! Pleez help me!!!!! PLEEZ!!!

I guess you didn't quite get my point...

No matter how good your antivirus software is, (and yes this includes all the major brands) viruses can get past them. Usually this is done by just simply being new. Like many other anitviruses, Norton needs to download new virus definitions in order to find new viruses. There is a delay between when a virus is released and eventually discovered (that depends on how malignant it is) until it is finally processed so you antivirus knows what to look for. Once again, antivirus software is no substitute for the application of caution and common sense.

Norton releases updates usually once or twice a week, as long as you keep it up to date it will usually stop almost anything, however, new viruses spread fast and arent always caught.

Keep in mind you're risking a virus every time you download an executable (EXE, BAT, SCR, PIF).

Windows XP keeps a backup copy of most of the system files in a hidden folder and generally isn't quite as vulnerable, but it's not exacly exempt either.
