Search Toolbar

How can I clear the search toolbar which has all my downloads, its pretty annoying when there is a huge list of downloads on the search for: toolbar.

Just click on the "x" in the search tab to the left of the search word. That will close your search.

Not the search window, I'm talking about where it reads: Search for: and then you put what you want, and it saves every search that was ever made. How can I clear that?

Moak June 2nd, 2002 12:44 PM

* close Xolox
* Windows 'Start' button, Run, enter: regedit
* go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Sofwtare\Xolox
* delete the key 'search history', NOT anything else
* start Xolox, it's clean

maybe there is something more easy?

Somebody's probably searching for porn and afraid of mama finding out about it...

KayaMan June 2nd, 2002 03:32 PM

Within XoloX: Go to Tools > Preferences > Searching Tab

There is an option to disable the auto-complete feature.
While this will stop the feature from working , the history is still saved in the registry and when you re-enable it previous auto-completes will still be there.

To remove them see Moak's above post to edit the XoloX registry key. We have discussed this and hopefully a 'clear history' feature can be added.

So now you know of 2 methods of disabling it - one being permanent clear of search history.

Search History Delete Button

Only thing I can think of that i haven't seen already brought up is a button to delete the search history. It can be annoying at times.

KayaMan June 3rd, 2002 02:20 PM

See this thread : http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=11965

edit:
n/m that link above, I merged them

X_Man June 7th, 2002 10:26 AM

you can also apply this registry patch for deleting the search history:

copy and paste and save as XLXCLR.REG

----- cut here ------vvv

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\xolox]
"search history"=""

----- cut here -----^^^

then double click it to delete search history (make sure xolox isn't running, exit via the systray icon)

KayaMan June 7th, 2002 04:00 PM

Yup Xman, a simple regkey is all thats needed and the same method will be used to clear it with a clear history option unless the method is changed all together.

edit: In the meanwhile until the next builds are released if you don't want to do it manually nor just disable auto-complete Gamer made this simple tool to do it for you :

the simple tool that keeps resetting my download folder to default?!?

Gamer June 7th, 2002 04:53 PM

it doesnt touch that reg key. If you do firsttime running xolox, I think xolox defaults a few things.

Search History is a DIFFERENT registry key. It is all that changes when you clear history.

As far as the download directory goes - you shouldnt change it anyways, there's a bug involving it.

Gamer June 7th, 2002 05:00 PM

Thought I'd add

Im willing to show the source to anybody who wants to see themselves what the program does. Half the program is dll calls for registry that are in the Windows API, written by Microsoft

KayaMan June 7th, 2002 10:27 PM

The download 'bug' is not what you mentioned gamer, what *can* be a problem on some systems is the 'save imcomplete files in this temp directory' setting on the downloads tab in preferences.

1. - Create a new folder in the same folder you installed XoloX and name it 'temp'. (i.e.: /program files/XoloX/temp).
- To create a new folder within a Windows directory; Right Click > Choose 'New' > 'New Folder' and rename it to 'Temp'.
2. - Now within XoloX go to Tools > Preferences > Downloads Tab. Set the 'save incomplete files to this directory' setting to the new folder you just created.
Shortcut Key: Alt-P
