You will see this article:

What do you get when you combine the best features of Napster, BearShare, KaZaA and eDonkey? You get a next-generation killer app from The Hague, Netherlands with the name of XoloX. How on Earth do you pronounce Xolox? Well, we just got an e-mail from the three guys who designed it. In Dutch it would be: "KSoloKS" In (American) English ..... "EX~oloX". Never mind even if you can't pronounce it, it's the latest, state-of-the-art, Gnutella, P2P file-sharing program on the face of the Earth. It's designed strickly for broadband (not modems), and can quickly download any digital media, including MP3, software, video, text and photos. Napster lovers will be ecstatic with the well-designed interface, which is even more simple and user-friendly than Napster itself. Check it out on our FREE DOWNLOADS page, or at www.xolox.nl

Umm...

How to you rationalize that the conjecture from an outside party in a review of the software as being more accurate than the conjecture here on these boards? I'll wait for a developer response before eating any humble pie or jeering I toldya so's.

well....

It's a pretty good source in my opinion cause they say they were told directly by the three developers that that was how it was pronounced. If one of the developers would please come forward and clear this up that would be nice. If I'm wrong, of course I will be the first to say so.

But it is fun to debate now and then. (Even over something so trivial.)

Ehh...

I guess I missed that part... Maybe lack of food has made my eyes sto pfunctioning right... (I hope I get paid soon so I can eat)

... anyway... even if it is 'EX~oloX' I'll still keep calling it 'zö~lox' just because I have been for a long time now and adding another syllable just doesn't seem to roll off the tounge that easy.

If anything, it's better than Zölö (second x silent) *shrug*

agreed

It is much easier to say zolox. Even now, when I see the word, it's still the first way I think of to say it. (I have to force myself to say Ex~olox.) So maybe the developers will change their mind on how it should be said. Or maybe they made it hard to figure out how to say for a reason?? hmmmmmm

Funny discussion... I didn't know that it is hard to pronounce Xolox for english speaking people.

I read it "ksoloks" and so do the dutch people (netherlands). Hehe, there should be a soundfile on the webpage for all Not-European-or-native-english-speaking people.

guru October 16th, 2001 11:58 AM

sound file

Well Moak ,
lets have a link to some web space with a sound file for the definitive answer .....
